Our White Doves

After 44 years of being in the funeral home business, God keeps on taking me higher and higher….

Of all the things we’ve done, I don’t think there’s anything I’ve ever undertaken that I have found so rewarding and that brings me the peace and serenity of taking care of my flock of white birds.

I don’t know why…

perhaps is because of the spiritual symbolism that they’ve represented almost since the beginning of time.

In Genesis after the great flood, Noah sent forth a dove to see if the waters had subsided and the dove returned that evening with an olive leaf and that’s how Noah knew that the waters had receeded.

Matthew 3:16 tells us that when Jesus was baptized, the heavens opened up and he saw the spirit descending upon him like a dove…. and it came to rest on him.

Finally the Psalmist David said “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest”

Today, we set them free at the funerals of our loved ones …. symbolizing their return to the heavens. And as we earthbound stand a watch them fly away, we are reminded to look UP, to the hills from whence cometh our help…. for all of our help comes from our loving Father in Heaven.
