The White and Nolan families are heartbroken to announce that Catherine (Nolan) White, our wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and beloved friend, passed from life on Friday, March 1, 2024 at her residence in Roanoke. Affectionately known as "Kitty" our mother was a kind — generous person, who touched each of us in her own special way. During this time of transition we summon your support and prayers, and express our heartfelt thanks to all who have already reached out to us.
In Loving Memory Of Mrs. Catherine "Kitty" (Nolan) White
Catherine Nolan White, 77, was born on November 25, 1946 in Randolph County, Alabama to the parentage of the late Harold Nolan, Sr., and Helen (Gray) Nolan.
Catherine confessed faith in Christ and was baptized at the Historic First Baptist Church here in Roanoke. She was married to the late Lorenza White, Sr., who preceded her to heaven.
In 2000, Catherine was led by the Holy Spirit to unite with New Life Worship Center, under the leadership of Bishop Lathonia Wright, where she served diligently in many capacities. There, she served as the Leader of the Usher's Ministry, Mother Of The Church, and the Best Cleaner of the Cleaning Ministry.
Mother Catherine sat quietly at the back door as people entered and exited the sanctuary. They were greeted with a smile and a hug that made them feel welcome to come again. As a young adult, Catherine worked over twenty (20) years as a production worker in Roanoke's local textile industry. Not quite ready to leave the workforce, she moved on to Rosser's Nursing Home, where she served for several more years as a CNA. In the late 90's Catherine joined the Dietary Department of Traylor's Nursing Home, continuing for another 15 years of service in the health care industry.
She really enjoyed cooking and feeding all who came to her home. She was highly regarded as a matriarch of Historic East Roanoke and Border Street and among her family of origin (the Nolan family).
Catherine also took pride in raising her grandchildren, great-grands and great-great-grands.
Catherine was preceded in death by three (3) sisters: Betty J. Nolan, Martha J. Tucker, and Beulah M. Foster; five (5) brothers; Harold Nolan, Jr., James Nolan, Ronnie Nolan, Angelo Nolan and Walter Lewis Nolan; her parents, Harold and Helen (Gray) Nolan; her beloved husband, Lorenzo White, Sr; a beloved grandson, Jonathan "Big John" White, and most recently, her son, Lorenza White, Jr. On Friday morning, March 1, Catherine quietly and peacefully slipped away to rejoin and dwell among the Ancestors and be with her Father in Heaven.
Celebrating her inspiring life, mourning her departure, and forever cherishing her sweet memories are: her four (4) children: Helen Woods (Bain), Brenda Ware (Jimmy), Patricia Lee (Raymond) and Kennis White all of Roanoke, and Dennis White (Teresa) of Cussetta, AL; one (1) sister, Mrs. Dicie Sims of Roanoke; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two (2) great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a special niece, Shandrel Daniels of San Antonio, TX; special friends: Pastor Iris Lovelace, and Pastor Dorothy Zyiad; and so many others throughout the Historic East Roanoke Community who will miss her deeply.
