It is with deepest and heartfelt sympathy that we inform you of the passing of Mr. Willie Howard Williams, 84, a native and former resident of Roanoke, Alabama currently residing at 650 Moreland Avenue, SE, Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Williams peacefully transitioned from this life on Wednesday, March 31, at his residence in Atlanta.
Willie Howard Williams was born on December 27, 1936, in Chambers County, Alabama to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Percy Lee and Mae Susie (Harrison) Williams.
On June 21, 1962, he united in marriage with the love of his life, native Randolph Countian, the late Mrs. Catherine Houston Williams, in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. Choosing to make their home and build many loving memories in the Atlanta area, they remained together for 56 years. Together they parented four children: Michael Houston, Kelvin Williams, Toni Williams, and Kathy Williams -- laying the foundation for a wonderful family that ultimately blossomed into fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Willie was preceded in death by his eldest son, Michael Houston.
Willie was a high school graduate, later attending Clayton State College, where he earned his Auto Mechanic certificate. He worked for many years at Mead Paper Company before transitioning to Ford Motor Company in 1968. Willie received many accolades during his tenure with Ford Motor Company as a certified brake specialist and engine assembler. He diligently labored in the Automobile industry, retiring after 25 years of loyal service. He had a special love for automobile mechanics, and his time spent with family both at home and at his beloved church home, Mount Ephraim Baptist Church, where he served on the R.L. White Senior Usher Board, as well as the Male Usher Board.
In addition to his oldest son Michael, Willie was also preceded in death by his devoted wife, Catherine, two (2) brothers: Percy and Robert; and sisters: Winnie, Christine, Ethel Mae, and Carrie Lillie.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Williams family which includes one (1) son, Kelvin G. Williams (Cynthia); two (2) daughters, Toni Williams, and Kathy Pass (Eric) all of Decatur, GA; and his special love child, Venice Walker; one (1) sister, Mrs. Annie D. Trammell; one (1) brother-in-law, Reverend William H. Trammell both of Roanoke; three (3) sisters-in-law: Nora Holloway (Lonnie), Gertrude Kelly both of Atlanta, GA; and Mary Frances Johnson of Roanoke, AL; fifteen (15) grandchildren; nineteen (19) great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
