We regret to announce the passing from this life, of Mr. Willie Joe McCray, Sr., a resident of 1220 Yancey Street, Roanoke, Alabama on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, Carroll County, Georgia.
Vistation for Mr. McCray will be observed on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm, here at the funeral home.
His life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 2:00 pm from First Baptist Church, 549 Riley Street, Roanoke, Alabama. Officiating will be Pastor, Gilbert Staples. Reverend Terry Magby will serve as Eulogist, with Reverend William Dillard, and other ministers.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: Charlie Kyles, Patrick Nolan, Thomas Gerard, Kenneth Bell, Duran Joiner, Luther McCray and Trevenio McCray.
Burial will follow in Skyview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Five Points, Alabama.
Willie was a life-long member of the Friendship Baptist Church in the Bacon Level Community.
Mr. McCray devoted much of his early life to working as a mechanic, and in the lumber milling industry. Some of his past employers included: Leroy Johnson, J.T. Simon, Jackie Holloway, Rowe Winston, and did mechanic work for Calvin Vinson. After many years engaging in lumber milling industry, a work-related injury, forced Willie into retirement.
In addition to his parents -- father, Thomas Jefferson McCray, and mother, Ora D. (Magby) Slay -- Willie Joe was also preceded in death by two (2) brothers: Marvin McCray, Melvin Lee McCray, and one (1) half brother, John McCray, and most recently, his beloved wife Mrs. Phyllis Johnson McCray.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to his entire family, which includes: his daughter, Felicia Johnson of Roanoke; three (3) sons: Willie Joe McCray, Jr., Keith McCray (Salivia Lewis) both of Roanoke, Alabama; and Calmease McCray (Shanda) of Villa Rica, Georgia; his sister, Margie McCray (Albert); brother: Thomas McCray, Jr. (Liz) both of Roanoke, Alabama; step-mother, Nettie McCray; four (4) half-brothers: Terry Zachery, Jeffery McCray, Richard Hardeman, and Billy Joe McCray (Ann) all of Atlanta, Georgia; two (2) brothers-in-law: Tracy Johnson (Linda) of Franklin, Georgia, and Kenneth Johnson of Roanoke, Alabama; three (3) sisters-in-law: Bernice Ware of Akron, Ohio, Johnnie Mae McCory (Curtis) of Smith Station, Alabama, and Debbie Johnson (Reginald McClendon) of Roanoke, Alabama; two beloved uncles, Wilbur McCray (Bessie) of Atlanta, Georgia and O.C. Magby of Chattanooga, Tennessee; ten (10) grandchildren: April, Tamala, Gavin, Wantika, Calmease, Jr., Yasmin, Darrion, Jayden, Kemarion, and Ariana; and five (5) great grandchildren: Tanyiah, Quatavious, Keasia, Emarius, and Cajhmire; and many other loving relatives and friends.
