In Loving Memory Of Walter L. Nolan "Lopey"
Walter was born in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama on January 2, 1951 to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold and Helen (Gray) Nolan. The family included ten (10) siblings, all but two having preceded him in death. They were sisters: Betty J. Nolan, Martha J. Tucker and Beulah M. Foster; and brothers: Harold Nolan, Jr., James Nolan, Ronnie Nolan and most recently, Angelo Nolan. Walter was also preceded in death by his oldest son, Nathan L. "Duke" Nolan,
As a youngster growing up in the historic East Roanoke community, Walter was raised attending First Baptist Church, Riley Street. He attended the Randolph County Training School. Throughout life, Walter was very gifted with his hands, which was evident in the many products they yielded. He enjoyed building projects. He also enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He was blessed with a "green thumb" which allowed him to grow beautiful flowers, and vegetable gardens. He was an Auburn Fan, and loved old school R&B Music. Despite his quiet nature, he also enjoyed watching the news and would comment on things he felt strongly enough about.
For more than 28 years, Walter worked as a machine operator at Candlewick Yarns. Prior to that, he was employed at Master Door Company for eight years, and Rosser Nursing Home for four years. God blessed Walter to work until he reached retirement age. And after his retirement, he seemed happy just being around home and in the neighborhood.
On Monday, April 1, Walter was summoned home to God's loving arms, leaving many cherished memories behind. Fond and loving memories will be cherished by his wife, Barbara Nolan; two (2) daughters: Terra Banks (Andre) and Danielle Owensby; two (2) step-sons that he raised like his own: Travis Owensby and Jermont Johnson; two (2) sisters: Catherine White and Dicie Sims all of Roanoke, Alabama; grandchildren: Serenity Foster, Roderick Foster, Jr., Harmony Harris, Ebony Johnson, Hannah Owensby, Ladarious Johnson Serenity Heath, Gladys Johnson, Leigha Johnson, Andre' Moss, Denetia Morgan, Damarius Nolan-Watts, Myrical Heard, and Andre Banks, Jr.; lastly but certainly not least, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
