The Madry and Smith families of Lanett and Valley are deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news that our beloved mother, sister, and aunt, Virginia D. (Smith) Madry, 69, has departed from us. She transitioned from this life on Saturday evening, September 16, 2023, at Bethany House Hospice of Auburn. Mrs. Madry was a native and life long resident of Valley, and the widow of the late Walter "Cheetah" Madry. We solicit your prayers as we prepare for the celebration of her life and homegoing. Thank all of our friends and loved ones for the love and prayers.
In Loving Memory Of Mrs. Virginia D. (Smith) Madry
Mrs. Virginia D. Madry was born January 4, 1954, to the parentage of the late Annias and Hattie Smith in Lee County, AL.
She was educated at Wacoochee School, Salem, AL, and Smith Station High School, Smith Station, AL. Virginia was united in holy matrimony to the late Walter "Cheetah" Madry.
Virginia accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Peter Methodist Church, Lee County, AL and later united with the Community Missionary Baptist Church, Valley, AL under the leadership of Reverend B.C. Carter, Jr. and current pastor, Reverend David L. Core. She served in many capacities, including the Choir Ministry, Pastor's Aide and the Nurses Guild. Ultimately her health failed, limiting her participation — yet she remained a faithful member until her homegoing.
Virginia was employed with West Point Pepperell for many years and Home Health of Valley, AL as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
At the height of her life, she enjoyed gardening, shopping, and spending quality time with her sisters. They were "peas in a pod".
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Madry; son, Rodney Madry; three (3) brothers: Clifford Smith, Clettus Smith and Ananias Smith; and six (6) sisters: Georgia Mae St. George, Annie Mae Sykes, Hattie Mae Battles, Magnolia Smith, Lonnie B. Houston and Mary Catherine Smith. She transitioned from this life, Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Bethany House Hospice of Auburn, AL.
She leaves to cherish many loving memories: two (2) sisters: Mary Linda Smith (Anthony Nero) and Annie Stallworth (Clinton) both of Lanett, AL; four (4) children: Betty Mae Palmer (Benjamin Peoples) of Atlanta, GA; Jarvis Smith, Shaquitia Pruitt, and Melissa Dawkins Davis (Dasmond Davis) all of Valley, AL; four (4) sisters-in-law: Marionette Carter of St. Petersburg, FL, Barbara Williams of Montgomery, AL, Daphne Grimes of Phenix City, AL, and Gwen Thomas of Valley, AL, who was not only her sister-in-law but a very close friend; three (3) brothers-in-law: Wayne Madry (Timothy Gray) of Marion, IN; Timothy Madry (Linda) of Tallahassee, FL; and Michael Madry, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL; and finally but not least, a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
