In Loving Memory Of Shirley Kelley

Shirley Ann Hatcher was the first of eight (8) children born October 13, 1951, in Irondale, Jefferson County, Alabama to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Hatcher, Sr., and Christine Vanhorn Hatcher who were also natives of Jefferson County. When Shirley was very young, the family migrated to Roanoke, Alabama, where their father worked on the pipeline, and remained in Roanoke from that time forward.

The Hatcher family, upon professing their faith, joined Saint Paul Baptist Church, where Shirley continued to grow in faith and service in her local church. Growing up in Roanoke, she attended both the Randolph County Training School, and Handley High School here in Roanoke.

As a young woman, she married Benny Cannon, Jr., and their union was blessed by the birth of their only son, Michael Cannon of Roanoke, Alabama. In later years, on October 13, she was united in marriage to Bobby Lee Kelley, who was received into God's presence in June, 2007.

Shirley worked for over 30 years as a Sewing Machine Operator at Terry Manufacturing Company and Sewell's. Then she worked for five (5) years as a dietitian at Traylor Nursing Home. She continued to work diligently even after reaching retirement age. Her last job was with CoreLink.

Throughout life, Shirey devoted much of her time to serving in the Church, where she worked with the Usher Board, Missionary Society and as a Sunday School Teacher. For many years, on Sunday mornings, she served as the church announcer, and was always dutiful in extending warm words of welcome to all visitors who entered through Saint Paul's doors. On September 11, 2005, Shirley was honored by the Pastor and Deacons Of Saint Paul Church for her Dedication and Commitment to her church.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Hatcher, Sr., and Christine Hatcher; husband, Bobby Lee Kelley; three (3) brothers: Robert Lee Hatcher, Jr., Tyrone "Ty" Hatcher, and Willie B. Hatcher; and a sister, Gloria Hatcher Lynch. Departing this life on Sunday morning, May 5, 2019, she reunited with her beloved parents and siblings predeceased.

She now leaves to cherish many loving memories, her devoted son, Michael Cannon (Marie) of Roanoke, Alabama; three (3) grandchildren: Michaya Antrenese Cannon, Jasmine Tiara Cannon and Jermichael Avantay Cannon; two (2) great grandchildren: Rileigh Jayde Mackey and Jaxton Kyrie Cannon; two (2) step-grandchildren: Ra'Keem Lamar Dozier and Sy'keria Redesha Bell; one (1) brother, John Thomas Hatcher (Donna) of Roanoke; two (2) sisters: Dorothy Ann Hatcher of Huguley, and Angelia Delores Hatcher of Five Points; a special niece, Maleesa Ann Hughston of Hughley; her church family, Saint Paul Baptist Church, Roanoke; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, relatives and friends.
