Savoy Stevens Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the Stevens family of Roanoke, announces the passing from this life of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Deacon Savoy Stevens, 74, a resident of Roanoke.  Mr. Stevens transitioned from this life on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Tanner Medical Center East Alabama, in Wedowee.

Savoy Stevens was born on November 24, 1947, to the parentage of K C and Emma Nell (Bell) Stevens  in Randolph County, Alabama.

Savoy was someone who some would say to “Never met a stranger.”  He enjoyed passing time with fishing, cutting grass, making barbecue grills, fixing and driving tractors, welding, and gardening. He was a wonderful musician who loved to play music “by ear”.  One of his favorite pasttimes was watching old westerns like “Gunsmoke” and “The Rifleman”, along with his favorite dish, a big pot of butter beans.

At an early age, he joined the Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a Deacon for many years.  Mr. Stevens also sang with the choir and served as Sexton, supervising maintenance and repairs at the church.

For over 30 years, Savoy worked at Mohawk Industries, formerly Amoco Fabric and Fibers. He received several Perfect Attendance Awards and Stellar Performance Certificates during his tenure there.  Savoy worked within the maintenance department and was a very skillful leather worker, making high-quality tool belts and pouches for the employees of the company.

Savoy is survived by his devoted wife, Deloris Stevens of Roanoke, Alabama; daughter, Emily (Thomas) Bayers of  Phenix City, Alabama; brother, Grady (Johnnie) Stevens of California; sisters, Peggy (Ralph) Trammell and Velma (Carl) Henderson of Roanoke, Alabama; Ruby (Lou) Morgan of Texas; Eva (Willie) Phillips of Roanoke, Alabama; Farris (Rev. Elijah, Jr.) Jackson: aunts: Jean Owensby and Frances Whatley; grandchildren;  Landy-Kate Bayers and Walker Bayers of Phenix City, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
