Robert Watkins Obituary

It is with our deepest and heartfelt sympathy we inform you of the passing from this life of Deacon Robert Lee Watkins, 73, a resident of 2969 Country Club Road, Roanoke, Alabama.  Deacon Watkins transitioned from this life on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Traylor Retirement Center, Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama.

For the convenience and benefit of Deacon Watkins' family, friends and loved ones, we are asking those who wish to post a condolence or message of sympathy, PLEASE do so directly on our website at the link we are providing below. https://www.clarkmemorial.biz/obituary/Robert-Watkins/guest-book.

Robert Lee Watkins was one of ten (10) children born in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama to the parentage of the late J.W. and Caffie (Houston) Watkins.  This was a large family comprised of six (6) boys and four (4) girls.  At an early age, Robert did as all of his siblings had before him -- confessed Christ and joined the family church, Mount Carrie Baptist Church in Franklin.  He remained a faithful member there for the rest of his life...serving in many capacities. He became a member of the Board Of Deacons, taking his responsibility seriously. Under his dedicated stewardship, Mount Carrie grew and underwent many visible improvements.  Not only was Robert dedicated in serving his church, but he was also musically inclined, and enjoyed Gospel Quartet singing with The Golden Faith Gospel Quartet.  This group traveled near and far, praising the Lord through song.

As a youngster, Robert attended the historic Randolph County Training School, graduating with the class of 1964.  After graduation, he worked at the Syrup Plant; then later he accepted employment with Ready Mark, where he learned to work with different inks, and made signs.  This became his life's vocation.  He remained employed at ReadyMark for over 40 years.  Robert had an appreciation for nice surroundings and had a very beautiful home, where he enjoyed gardening, and landscaping.

Over the years, his large family of parents, and siblings-- one by one -- began to transition home: brothers: J.T. Watkins, Harvey Junior Watkins, Jimmy Lee Watkins, W.J. Watkins, Elijah Watkins; and sisters: Christine (Watkins) Goss, Ruby Nell (Watkins) Daniel, Mozelle (Watkins) Traylor.  On Sunday, March 29, 2020, God summoned Robert to join his predeceased loved ones.  He was at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.

Robert will be deeply missed in our community.  He gave many smiles to the world and though absent from us, he has left behind a legacy of cherished memories that will linger with his only surviving sister, Nancy Watkins of Washington, DC; two (2) sisters-in-law, Annie Dora Watkins Of Cincinnati, Ohio and Loretta Watkins of Oceanside, CA; and brother-in-law, Charlie Daniel of Roanoke; special neighbors: Thomas Garrett (Mary Jim) & Tommy Lee Trammell (Elizabeth, and a great host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
