With deepest regret we announce the passing from this life of Robert Steve Battle, 53, a resident of Roanoke, Alabama. Mr. Battle transitioned from this life Friday, Aprirl 28, 2017.
Public viewing and visiting hours for Mr. Battle will be observed on Friday, May 5, 2017, from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
Funeral services will be observed on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 1:00 O'Clock pm from the County Line Baptist Church, 316 County Road 834, Wadley, Alabama, with Pastor Rickey Cofield officiating, and burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Serving as Pall bearers will be former Handley High School football teammates.
In Loving Memory of Robert Steve Battle
Robert Steve Battle was born in Wadley, Alabama on March 31, 1964 to the parentage of Robert Battle and the late Ophelene (Zachery) Battle. He was the oldest of four sons born to this parentage.
At an early age, Steve joined the County Line Baptist Church in Wadley, where he remained a member throughout his youth and adulthood.
He spent the most of his 53 years in Wadley, and Roanoke, Alabama. Perhaps the most exciting and memorable years of his life were his high school years. Steve was born to play football. This was a game he loved and excelled in. Steve attended Handley High School in Roanoke, where he played varsity football, and proved himself to be a very popular and gifted athlete. In 1982, while a sophmore, Steve received Honorable Mention, by The Alabama Sports Writers Association, for the 2A All-State Team. Steve's years on the Handley High School Football Team, will NEVER be forgotten.
As a young man, Steve was married the late Miss Gloria Staples of Wadley, Alabama. Their union was blessed by the birth of a son, Steven, Jr. Gloria preceded Steve in death, in 1996.
Steve was loved by all who knew him, and will long be rememberd for his amazing athletic ability. He was both a loving son, father AND brother.
While yet in his youth, having reached age 53, Steve transitioned from this life on Thursday evening, April 28, 2017.
Steve's legacy will long be cherished by his only son, Steven Demetrius Battle, Jr. (Tiffany) of Roanoke, Alabama; his grandson, Steven 'Dre Battle of Opelika, Alabama; his father, Deacon Robert Battle; three (3) brothers: Wayne Battle, David Battle (Crystal) and Lewis Battle (Katina) all of Roanoke, Alabama; three (3) uncles: Lonnie Zachery of Roanoke, Alabama; Willie James Battle and Hershel Battle both of Wadley, Alabama; three (3) aunts: Rosie Lee Staples and Jean Zachery of Wadley, Alabama; and Beatrice Ellis of Chicago, Illinois; ten (10) nephews; five (5) nieces; a large number of cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
