With hearts both heavy and grateful, we celebrate the life and legacy of Ms. Peggy Beasley, a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, and faithful servant of God, who transitioned from this life on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the age of 89. Her passing occurred peacefully at Roanoke Health Care in Roanoke, Alabama — the very community she cherished and called home for a lifetime.
Born on February 15, 1936, in Chambers County, Alabama, Peggy was the daughter of the late John Beasley and Lula Rae Turner Beasley. She was rooted in the deep red clay of East Alabama, and her entire life reflected the grace, resilience, and kindness of Southern womanhood.
Peggy's working years were marked by diligence and integrity. She was employed for over three decades at Terry Manufacturing Company, where she served with excellence as a seamstress and later as a quality control specialist. A woman of many gifts, Peggy was also a talented hairstylist, blessing friends and family alike with her skill and warm presence.
She was a devoted member of Sweet Home Baptist Church in Five Points, AL, where her faith was a steady light. Over the years, she served as a youth supervisor and participated actively in the missionary society. Sister Beasley also served faithfully and diligently at Sweet Home in the following capacities: President of the Adult Choir, Vice-President of the Missionary Society and Devotional Leader of the Missionary Society. She attended the Baptist Training Union and Bible study classes on a regular basis. She was very active in the East Alabama District Women's Convention.
She used her melodious voice to sing beloved "hymns" and music such as "Send Me, I'll Go", "One More Sunny Day", "Swing Low Sweet Chariot", "Let It Be Real", "Oh I Want To See Him", "Yes God Is Read", "Jesus Is All Over Me", "Tell Me How Did You Feel When You Come Out The Wilderness", and other great hymns of the black church.
On her Christian Journey, Sister Peggy traveled to see and hear great Gospel Singers such as Sister Katie Sankey, Lee Williams, The Hogansville Male Chorus of Hogansville, GA, Sister Alice Lewis of Daviston, AL, The Alabama Spirituals, The Luthersville Male Chorus of Luthersville, GA, The Star Wonders and the Holloway and Drake Singers of Camp Hill, AL. — always willing to lend her heart, hands, and time to the work of the Lord.
Although Peggy never remarried following her divorce from her former husband, the late Willie Shears, she continued to pour her love into her family. She is survived by her devoted son, Mr. Marvin Shears (Daniela) of Roanoke, Alabama, and one cherished grandson, Mr. Shelton Shears of Augsburg, Germany. Her love continues to live on in her great-grandson, young Maximillion Shears, also of Augsburg; and finally by a stepson, Mr. Percy Shears of Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by two stepsons, Willie Frank Shears and George Shears; also preceding her in death was her brother, Reverend Frank Wright, Sr.
In addition to her immediate family, Peggy leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and dear friends who will forever remember her gentle spirit, her quiet strength, and the heartfelt laughter she so often shared.
A celebration of life honoring Ms. Peggy Beasley will be held at Sweethome Baptist Church in Five Points, Alabama, where Rev. L.B. Houston will serve as the eulogist and Rev. Jerome Trammell as pastor. Interment will follow at Skyview Memorial Garden. The women of the Missionary Society will serve as flower attendants, and family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Though she now rests, Peggy Beasley’s light remains — in the lives she touched, the faith she walked in, and the love she gave without measure.
