The Brown and Bell families of Roanoke and Atlanta are saddened to announce that Nancy Mae (Bell) Brown, our wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and beloved friend, tragically passed from life on Saturday, June 1, 2024 in Roanoke. During this time of loss we humbly solicit your support and prayers, and express our heartfelt thanks to all who have already reached out to us.
Nancy Mae Bell was born in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama on December 4, 1945, to her beloved parents, the late Mr. & Mrs. E.S. and Zera (Whatley) Bell. She grew up with her ten (10) siblings in the Roanoke community, attending the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, which was this branch of the Bell family's Church home.
Nancy attended the historic Randolph County Training School (RCTS), proudly graduating with the class of 1965.
Nancy relocated to the Atlanta area where she raised her family, and resided for more than 50 years. While there, she busied herself over many years, by accepting employment in numerous fields — giving many years of service with each. Her various employers include: Sears, thirty-two (32) years; The Georgia Department Of Labor, fourteen (14) years; Wachovia Bank, five (5) years; The GA Dome, two (2) years; and TJ Maxx; along with additional experience with Data Entry & Cosmetology.
Nancy was passionate about her employment, doing hair, and her church life. While residing in Atlanta, Nancy embraced the Pentecostal faith; attending Move Of God Church, 157 Anderson Ave NW, Atlanta, GA 30314. She returned home to Roanoke, roughly five (5) years ago, residing on her family's homestead.
Nancy was preceded in death by a brother, E. S. Bell, Jr., along with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. E.S. and Zera Bell. She was called home on Saturday, June 1, 2024 in Roanoke.
Nancy is survived by her four (4) children all of whom reside in Atlanta; sons: Willie Frank Brown, Jr. (Erica), Derrick Brown (Abigail); and daughters: Theresa Ann Inoma and Tennisha Brown; four (4) brothers: Reverend Fred Bell (Melinda), Reverend Brady Bell (Minnie), Isaiah Lee Bell (Rita) — all of Roanoke; and Zebedee Bell (LaRonna) of Washington, DC); two (2) sisters: Frances Howell, and Yvonne Bell both of Roanoke; seventeen (17) grandchildren; thirteen (13) great-grandchildren; other special relatives and friends: Mrs. Jackie, Ms. Linda, Ms. Rudene, Mrs. June, Mrs. LaRonna Bell, Mrs. Betty Joe Brooks, Ms. Carolene Knight; and many more relatives and friends who will miss her deeply.
