THE OBITUARY

Miss Melmer Hill was born April 6, 1949, to the parentage of the former Mr. and Mrs. Alford N. and Ella Lee (Dunson) Hill in Randolph County, Alabama.

She grew up in the historic East Roanoke District where she attended the Randolph County Training School in Roanoke. At an early age, she joined First Baptist Church, Riley Street, where she remained a faithful member until her home going.

On December 23, 1966, she wed the love of her life, Mr. Adolphus Trammell at her parents' home on Avenue "A" in Roanoke. They remained faithfully wed for almost 50 years. Their marriage was fruitful, giving rise to seven sons and one daughter. An industrious wife and mother, she worked in the local manufacturing industries including Rolane, Palm Beach, and Terry Manufacturing.

Melmer was a very active member of the Lily White Chapter, Order Of Eastern Stars, where she served under Sister Thelma Ware, and Sister Mable Holley. Melmer served many positions; and was later elected Worthy Matron. As a member of the Order Of Eastern Stars, she was privileged to assist with many charitable acts in and around our community. She was also a "Tiger Mom" and was enthusiastic in attending sports events in support of her children and grandchildren. Her children remember her as a loving mother and grandmother who was guided by her motherly instincts to love and embrace all children, often taking them into her home and her care.

Melmer was preceded in death by a sister, the late Mrs. Judy Magby Higgins. On November 11, 2016, God in his all-wise providence saw fit to call our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother home from labor to reward. She was at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, Alabama.

Melmer's cherished legacy includes her beloved husband of 49 years, Mr. Adolphus Trammell; seven (7) sons: Sylvester Hill (Earnestine), Cedric Trammell (Veta), Wayne Trammell (Kathy), Patrick Trammell, Chris Holloway (Shannon), Michael Trammell, all of Roanoke, Alabama, and Joe Trammell of Carrollton, Georgia; one (1) daughter, Millicent Trammell of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her father, Reverend Alford N. Hill, Sr. of Welch, Alabama; mother, Mrs. Ella Lee Hill of Roanoke, Alabama; three (3) brothers: Alford N. Hill (Maggie), and David Hill both of Roanoke, Alabama, and Reverend Dr. James Hill (Wanda) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two (2) sisters: Mary L. Hairston of Roanoke, Alabama and Angelia Hatcher of Welch, Alabama; one (1) brother-in-law, Reverend William H. Trammell of Roanoke, Alabama; five (5) sisters-in-law: Dora Hildreth and Bernice Trammell both of Elyria, Ohio; Annie Pearl Trammell, Annie Dora Trammell, and Doris Trammell all of Roanoke, Alabama; twenty-three grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
