In Loving Memory Of Mrs. Mattie Ruth (Burrow) Lee
Ms. Lee was born in Chambers County Alabama on December 7, 1932 to the parentage of the late Rufus and Mattie Lee Burrow. She was one of 13 children -- six sons and seven daughters -- born to this parentage. Mattie was preceded in death by three brothers: Wyatt Burrow, Ocie B. Burrow, and Lil' Brother who died in infancy; and five sisters: Annarine Clark, Rudine Paige, Gertrude Kettles, Annie Kate Burrow who died in infancy; and Deborah Heflin. Also preceding her were her parents, and grandparents, the late Mary (Staples) Briskey and Green Briskey and the late Wyatt and Ida Burrow.
She grew up in Chambers County, where at an early age, she accepted Christ as her savior, and joined the Rehope Baptist Church. There she remained a faithful member throughout her life. The family migrated to Roanoke, where she resided for 28 years. During her younger years, she worked hard farming and doing domestic work. However with the passage of time, her health began to decline and she found herself more restricted from previous activites, and unable to attend the Lord’s house.
In the 1950's Mattie married James Franklin Lee, and their union was blessed by the birth of three children -- one son, and two daughters.
During her years as a resident of Roanoke, she became very fond of her neighbor, the late Mrs. Rosie Wright. The Lee family is so grateful for the many friendships that their mother established along life's journey. They are indebted to Chattahoochie Hospice, and overwhelmingly grateful to Mattie's very special daughter, Virginia, for the superb and loving care provided during her illness and confinement to the home.
She transitioned from this life on Saturday morning, July 1, at her residence in Roanoke.
Many cherished memories of Mattie as a loving and devoted mother, will be d by her son, Jesse Lee (Lesia Abner) of Roanoke, Alabama; and two (2) daughters: Patricia L. Allen (Danny) of Albany, New York, and Virginia D. Lee of Roanoke, Alabama; three (3) brothers: Nathaniel Burrow, William Lee "Shane" Burrow, and Cleophus Burrow (Louise); and one (1) sister, Ethel B. Burrows all of Roanoke, Alabama; two (2) grandchildren: Veronica and Timothy Lee; and three (3) great grandchildren: Talia, Ny'Ria and Tyler Lee, all of whom she adored; a mother-in-law, Odessa Lee of Snellville, Georgia; one (1) brother-in-law, Leon Heflin of Roanoke, Alabama; two (2) sisters-in-law: Daisy Mae Lee of Wadley, Alabama and Clara Houston of Atlanta, Georgia; and finally a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family at Rehope Baptist Church, and many wonderful neighbors, and other loving relatives and friends.
