In Loving Memory Of Mrs. Maggie Lue Thornton Rowland

Maggie Lue Thornton was born in Rock Mills community of Randolph County, Alabama, on April 18, 1938 to the parentage of the late King George and Lillie Mae (Baker) Thornton. She was the eldest of ten (10) children born to this parentage.

At an early age, she joined Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church in the community known as “Springfield.”

She attended the Rock Mills Elementary and Middle and the Randolph County Training School (RCTS) in Roanoke, graduating with the class of 1956.

She united in marriage with the late Henry Lewis Rowland, a union that gave rise to two beautiful daughters, Anita D. Rowland of Austell, Georgia, and Rita Michelle Oliver (Jerome) of Ellenwood, Georgia.

She and her children moved from Roanoke to Atlanta where she was employed for 26 years at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked as a member of the operational support staff.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother, Calvin Thornton, and former husband, Henry Lewis Rowland, God in his loving kindness and mercy, admitted her into his presence, and she obediently closed her eyes on Sunday June 12, 2016. Her transition took place at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia. There, she was surrounded by loved ones, who were witnesses to her peaceful transition.

Maggie was very much loved, supported, cherished, and will be deeply missed by her three grandchildren: Simiya Thompson, twins Jamie and Kelsey Oliver; three brothers: Lonnie C. Thornton (Frances) of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Gene A. Thornton (Rosemary) of Springfield, Virginia; and Alvin Thornton (Annette) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; five sisters: Earnestine Thornton, Linda Thornton DeSouza, Doris Thornton Mbonzo (Richard) all of Atlanta, Georgia, Denise Sims of Riverview, Florida; and Tracey Thornton of Punta Gorda, Flordia; a sister-in-law Sandra Kendricks Thornton (Calvin), of Atlanta, Georgia, a great multitude of beloved Uncles, Aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
