Ms. Inez Turner was the youngest of four (4) children, born in Lineville, Clay County, Alabama to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Howard and Lavada (Dotson) Turner. She was born on October 12, 1928, then attended school and a few years later -- August 30, 1942 -- married the late J.T. Knight. They married in Dadeville, Tallapoosa County, Alabama. This union gave rise to seven biological children and one foster daughter: Winford, Norma Jean, Denson, Jerry, Lillie Mae, Rosella, Carolyn, and Nannette.

Sometime after that, the Knight family established their homestead, settling in Roanoke, Alabama, where Inez raised her family and became a familiar face in the community. While residing in Roanoke, Inez worked hard to take care of her family, laboring as a domestic worker, and later as a production worker at Handley Textile Mills. Even later, she worked at Randolph County Training School in the lunch room, serving nutritious meals to the children of that era.

She raised her family as a devoted member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, in Roanoke. She later joined the Deliverance Temple Church of the Living God, under the spiritual guidance of Bishop C.L. Wilkes. Just by virtue of how she lived and the example she set, "Miss Inez", as many lovingly called her, earned the respect of young and old, regarded as one of our beloved community mothers.

In 1977, after retiring, Inez moved from this area to Cleveland Ohio, residing in that community for 28 years. Following their mother, many of her children moved north right along with her.

Inez's priorities throughout her life were her children and grandchildren. She was a loving, doting mother and grandmother. As she entered her mature years, she served her adult children as "chief" baby-sitter, a job she loved. In later years, Inez migrated back to her home in Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Lavada (Dotson) Turner; husband, J.T. Knight; two (2) sons: Winford Knight and Denson Knight; one (1) daughter, Norma Jean Knight Heard; and three (3) grandchildren: Keithen Knight, Teria Heard, and Kimberly Knight. On Friday, February 16, 2018, Inez experienced a great reunion with her deceased loved ones, when she transitioned from this life. She was at the Vaughan Regional Medical Center, in Selma, Alabama.

Our sincere sympathy is extended to all of her children, and loved ones including: her only surviving son, Jerry Knight of Selma, Alabama; four (4) daughters: Lillie Mae Sanders (Ernest) of Cleveland, Ohio, Rosella Dobbins (Charles) of Selma, Alabama and Carolyn J. Davis (Kelvin, Sr.) and Nannette Phillips (Kenneth) of Roanoke, Alabama; fourteen (14) grandchildren; and twenty-six (26) great grandchildren who love her dearly and will now miss having her in their lives.
