The Obituary
Ms. Hazel Smith Hines was born in Randolph County, Alabama, on May 23, 1936, to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jonah and Mary Lizzie (Phillips) Smith.
The Smith family was among some of the founding families of Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church in Roanoke, where Hazel, too joined and attended. She married the late Leroy Hines. After marriage, she joined East Roanoke Pure Holiness Church of God, where they both where very active and faithful members.
The Hines family was blessed with three fine sons, and God saw fit to allow Leroy and Hazel both to live to see all of their sons reach adulthood, and standing on their own as productive members of society. During her more productive years, she worked as a custodian at Stephanie Fashions in Roanoke.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. and Mrs. Jonah and Mary Lizzie Smith; her husband, Deacon LeRoy Hines; and one son, Alan Lee Hines; two brothers: Mr. Hubert Smith, and Mr. Jonah "Bubba" Smith, Jr.; and three (3) sisters: Ms. Ruby Smith, Mrs. Barbara Ann Hooks and Mrs Lois "Pete" Moss. And with the passage of time, Sister Hazel physical vitality began to fade, but she remained the same vivacious and wonderful mom she always was.
Mrs. Hazel Hines passed away a little before noon, at Roanoke Health Care Center, 680 Seymour Drive, in Roanoke, on Thursday, December 1, 2011.
Mrs. Hines leaves to celebrate her life, mourn her passing, and cherish her loving memory: two (2) sons: The Reverend Billy Paul Hines (Jeanette) of Stockton, Georgia, and Michael Hines of LaGrange, Georgia; a special (adopted) daughter Elisha Smith of Roanoke, Alabama; one (1) sister, Mrs. Elnora Tucker of Roanoke, Alabama; five (5), grandchildren; Ketiria Hunt, Suret Hines, Shalet Hines, Indian Walker, Brittany Cooper; and two (2) great grandchildren, Kanora Hunt, and Kadasia Hunt; a special niece, Lashaka Smith; her God-son, Reginald Heflin, and God-daughter, Shirley Rowland; and last but certainly not least, a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
PALLBEARERS will be Charles Fitzgerald Moss, Andre' Moss, Carey Stegall, Tim Moss, Kenneth Houston, Montique Houston, and Victor Thompson.
