Mrs. Christine Trammell Obituary

It is with extreme sadness and distress that we announce the passing of Mrs. Christine (Williams) Trammell, beloved first lady of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Standing Rock, Alabama, and wife of our beloved friend and colleague, the Reverend William H. Trammell. Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers are extended to Reverend Trammell and his entire family in the loss of your beloved wife.

Public viewing and visiting hours for Mrs. Trammell will be observed here at the funeral home, on Monday, (March 3) between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 6:00 PM.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Christine Trammell will be observed on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at 1:00 O'Clock PM from the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 372 Waller Mill Road, Roanoke, Alabama 36274, Reverend R.L. Heflin, Pastor, Reverend Myris L. Bell, Officiating, and Dr. Melvin Owens, Eulogist.

Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 372 Waller Mill Road, Roanoke.

The Obituary

Christine Williams was born in Chambers County, Alabama on May 18, 1940, to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Percy and Mae Susie (Harrison) Williams.

At an early age, Christine joined the Sweet Home Baptist Church in Five Points. Later her family relocated to Roanoke, and the family joined Mount Pisgah Baptist Church where she began an active role in the faith community. At Mount Pisgah, she served as Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, and Chaplain and Treasurer of the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Missionary Society. She remained a faithful member at Mount Pisgah until her home going.

She grew up and attended school at Randolph County Training School (R.C.T.S.) in Roanoke, Alabama. She graduated with the R.C.T.S. Class of 1959. She united in marriage with the Reverend William H. Trammell, with whom she parented four children. She was a gifted seamstress, devoting many years to sewing for others. She also held employment as a seamstress at Terry Manufacturing Company for a short time.

As a minister’s wife, Mrs. Trammell enjoyed many years of service as the first-lady of the New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, LaFayette; Mount Gilead Baptist Church, Newell; County Line Baptist Church, Wadley; Macedonia Baptist Church, Roanoke; and finally Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Standing Rock. In addition to church activities, she actively participated on the District level, serving as the Advisor to the Ministers’ Wives of the Friendship Western Union District Association.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and siblings: Percy Williams, Jr., Robert Louis Wiliams, Winnie Gilham, Ethel Mae Cannon. Surrounded by her loved ones, Christine’s life journey ended on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at her home on Schuessler Street in Roanoke, Alabama after an extended illness.

Precious memories of Christine, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend will linger in the hearts of those she leaves behind forever, including her devoted husband, the Reverend William H. Trammell of Roanoke, Alabama; her children: one (1) son: Reverend William Jerome Trammell (Cherita) of Roanoke, Alabama and three (3) daughters: Angela Trammell Campbell and Carol Trammell both of Roanoke, Alabama, and Valerie Trammell Sims of LaGrange, Georgia; one (1) brother, Willie Williams (Catherine) of Atlanta, Georgia; two (2) sisters: Mrs. Annie Dora Trammell (Leonard) and Carrie Paige both of Roanoke, Alabama; one (1) brother-in-law, Adolphus Trammell (Melba) and four (4) sisters-in-law: Bernice Trammell and Dora Hildreth both of Elyria, Ohio; Doris Trammell and Pearl Trammell both of Roanoke, Alabama; and finally a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, neighbors and friends.
