Mrs. Alberta Ester, Obituary

Mrs. Alberta Ester, age 77, a resident of Wilkie Clark Drive, Roanoke, Alabama, passed away on Thursday evening, January 24, 2013 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.

Public Viewing and visiting hours will be observed on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, between the hours of 12:00 NOON and 6:00 PM.

The Celebration of LIfe, for Mrs. Ester will be observed on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 1:00 O'Clock PM from the First Baptist Church, 549 Riley Street, Roanoke, with the Reverend Gilbert E. Staples, pastor, Reverend Timothy Hughly, Reverend Willie C. Houston, Reverend Myris Bell, and Reverend Jeffery Rosser officiating.

Pall Bearers will be: Grandsons, Glenn and Marvin Lindsey, Deacon Leon Hill, Deacon Mack Bell, Deacon Donnie Hines, and Brother Lavelle Nolan.

Burial will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery,

The Obituary

Mrs. Alberta Fuller Ester, daughter of the late Bobby and Susie M. (Johnson) Fuller was born in October 30, 1935 in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama. She was the only child.

At an early age, Alberta joined the First Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until she relocated to Chicagto, Illinois. She attended and graduated from the Randolph County Training School in 1954. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Marvin Ester in 1955, relocating to Chicago, Illinois. To their union, six (6) children were born: five (5) sons and one (1) daughter. While employed and residing in Chicago, Illinois, she united with the Golden Rule Missionary Baptist Church. After relocation back to Roanoke, she united with the Macedonia Baptist Church in Roanoke.

She was employed at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois for 35 years.

In addition to both parents, her infant son, Anthony, her husband, Marvin Ester and a grandchild, Kunta Kinte Chatman, preceded her to heaven.

After her return to Roanoke, she and her family enjoyed many wonderful years here in the community, where she gave many smiles to the world and made our neighborhood just a little brighter.

Alberta transitioned from this life to eternity on Thursday evening, January 24, 2013 at East Alabama Medical Center.

She leaves to celebrate her life, mourn her departure, and cherish many wonderful memories her daughter, Freda Lindsey (Glenn) of Chicago, Illinois; four (4) sons: Charles Ester (Evella) and James Ester both of Roanoke, Alabama; Marvin Esther, Jr, and Thomas Ester (Laura) both of Chicago, Illinois; six (6) grandchildren, and six (6) great-grandchildren; one (1) brother, Reverend Jeffery Rosser (Janice) of Roanoke, Alabama; one (1) brother-in-law, Charles Harrison of Douglasville, Georgia; five (5) sisters-in-law: Ruby Gilmore, Lizzie Ester and Mary Ann Ester and Myrtis Slaughter, all of Chicago, Illinois, and Opal Smedley of Dayton, Ohio; the Macedonia Baptist Church Family, and a host of other loving relatives, neighbors and friends who will truly miss Alberta; last but certainly not least, her caregivers, Agnes Watkins, Jessie Ruth Carlisle, Julius Shealey, and John and Brenda Tucker.
