In Loving Memory Of Brother Travis Buchanan

Brother Travis Buchanan was one of ten (10) children born in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, to the parentage of the late Ananias and Ethel Lee (Lindsey) Buchanan, on July 13, 1943.

At an early age, he joined Cogar Hill C.M.E. Church, where he worked out his soul salvation, and remained a faithful member until his homegoing. Travis grew up quickly, and so, at an early age, he also decided to leave school in favor of working in the logging industry, which he started doing around 11 or 12 years of age. He engaged in this work for more than 40 years. For many years, he worked for Braxton Cotney.

On January 26, 1981, Travis married the love of his life, Miss Rudine (Rutlin) of Wedowee, Alabama. Their marriage was blessed with a son, James Jay. They have remained faithfully wed for nearly 50 years.

By all accounts from both family and friends, Travis was an all-around family man, and a people person. He loved his church. He attended Cogar Hill regularly, and worked along with the other men in Coger Hill, to make the church beautiful and comfortable. He was good with his hands and enjoyed building. And when he became ill, and was no longer able to go, HE WAS MISSED. The pastor would come by the house to see him... and to find out WHY he was not in morning worship service. He enjoyed singing, and for many years, he sang with local gospel singers, "The Magnificent Six."

Travis enjoyed being with his family. He liked to fish, playing horseshoes, basketball, and other games; but of all that Travis enjoyed of life, probably the one thing he loved most was playing cards. Wherever he went he was known to carry a deck of cards... and according to family, was also known to cheat.

Travis was preceded in death by both parents; a son, Travis Buchanan, Jr., three (3) brothers: Curtis James Buchanan, Ananias Buchanan, Jr., and John David Buchanan, a sister-in-law, Lena Mae Rutlin. He departed this life on Friday morning, March 25, 2016 at home in Daviston.

Travis leaves to cherish many loving memories his wife, Mrs. Rudine Buchanan of Daviston; his son, James Jay Buchanan of Sylacauga, Alabama; two grandchildren: James Jay Buchanan, Jr., of Roanoke, and Jalayah Buchanan of Sylacauga, Alabama; his God-Mother, Ann Morrison of Delta, Alabama; a God-son, Matt Patterson of Buxton, Alabama; one (1) brother, Joe Buchanan (Hazel) of Birmingham, Alabama; five (5) sisters: Mattie Staples, Mary Staples, and Clemis Ann Bledsoe (Dennis) all of Wadley, Alabama; Ruby Dean Buchanan (Earnest) of Birmingham, Alabama; and Alice Lewis of Daviston, Alabama; one (1) Uncle, A.J. Buchanan of New York; three (3) Aunts: Mary Buchanan and Naomi Slaughter of Daviston, Alabama, and Essie Mae Lewis of Mobile, Alabama; four (4) sisters-in-law: Linda Rutlin of Wedowee, Alabama; Sallie Rutlin and Joanne Rutlin both of Miami, Florida; Edith Meadows of Daviston, Alabama and finally a devoted cousin, Edmond Hall, Jr., of Daviston, Alabama and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
