In Loving Memory Of Mr. Randy McCurty
Randy McCurty was born August 6, 1960, in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama, the son of Mrs. Geneva McCurty Shears. He was one of four children born to this parentage: three sons and one daughter. Randy was preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas and Robert McCurty.
As a youth, he joined Saint Paul Baptist Church in Roanoke, under Reverend R.L. Thompson. Though he left the area to reside in Atlanta, Randy remained a member of Saint Paul until his homegoing. While residing in Roanoke, he attended Saint Paul regularly.
As a child, he attended elementary school in the historic East Roanoke District at Randolph County Training School. As a mere youngster barely out of elementary school Randy became enamored with Roanoke’s “Cattle Barn” and would often skip school to go there on trade day. At an early age, he started working there regularly. As a young adult, he was employed as a production worker at Plantation Patterns, Wadley, Alabama where he served for 15 years. Later in life, as compromised health began to weigh upon him, he was forced into retirement around 1995. After retiring, he migrated from Roanoke to Atlanta, Georgia where he resided with his mother.
While residing in Atlanta, he frequently attended the Friendship Community Baptist Church, where he enjoyed working with the food bank. He was an enthusiastic gardener, and won an award for his gardening. Along with his gardening, he was a great cook as well. He also was an avid fisherman.
Randy departed this life on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his residence in Atlanta, Georgia.
His cherished legacy includes his devoted mother and sister: Mrs. Geneva Shields and Ms. Wanda Denise McCurty, both of Atlanta, Georgia; one niece, Coretta Janet McCurty of Atlanta, Georgia; three nephews: Calvin Duran McCurty (Shamekia) and family of Newport, Virginia, Anthony Alphonso Willis, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, and Deriyous McCurty of New Jersey; a very special great nephew, Elijah Horatio McCurty of Atlanta, Georgia; three uncles; Curtis McCurty (Blanche) of Kyle, Texas, Huey Lee McCurty (Tisa) of Atlanta, Georgia, and George McCurty of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two aunts; Betty Foster of Tuskegee, Alabama, and Diane Tigner of Roanoke, Alabama; and a host of kindred, many other loving relatives and friends.
