IN LOVING MEMORY OF MR. OTIS DEAN HIGGINS

Mr. Otis Dean Higgins was born September 18, 1935, to the parentage of the late Lonnie B. and Lucille (Bailey) Higgins in Standing Rock, Chambers County, Alabama. At an early age, he joined Canaan Baptist Church. He was educated in Chambers County School System.

In 1953, he married Miss Minnie Winston of Bacon Level, and their union was blessed by the birth of four daughters. One of the daughters, Shirley, preceded him in death (2003).

He was an active member of the Canaan Baptist Church in the Welch Community, where he remained a faithful member until his home-going.

The family remained in the Randolph/Chambers county area until the 1960s when they migrated to Atlanta, Georgia, where Mr. Higgins worked as an "Order Puller" for Associated Groceries for more than 30 years. During their tenure in Atlanta, they maintained their Chambers county homestead. After many years, he returned to his beloved Chambers county homestead, where he remained until a debilitating stroke and paralysis claimed his independence.

In addition to his daughter Shirley, Otis was also preceded in death by his brother, Charlie B. Higgins. He received care at LaFayette Nursing home until his transition on Sunday morning, March 5, 2017.

He leaves behind many cherished memories to be treasured by his former wife, Mrs. Minnie Winston Higgins Cargill of College Park, Georgia; three daughters: Dorothy Higgins and Cynthia Higgins of College Park, Georgia, and Joyce McKinnon of Powder Springs, Georgia; one brother, Joseph Higgins (Jessie) of Decatur, Georgia; three sisters: Era King of San Francisco, California, Ruby Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia and Jeanette Carter of Chicago, Illinois; six grandchildren: Bryant Higgins, Jarell Gresham, Brandon McKinnon, Jordan McKinnon, LaShandra Pennington, Jasmine Higgins; and two great-grandchildren, Zymir Gresham and Zaques Gresham; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
