In Memory Of Larry Turman
Mr. Larry Turman was born in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Andrew Goodman and the late Ida Mae Turman, on February 25, 1946. This was a loving family of five children (Larry, being the oldest, and his four (4) sisters: Kathy, Nita, Trudy, and Lisa).
Under the loving influence of his mother, Ms. Ida Mae Turman, Larry joined Friendship Baptist Church in the Bacon Level Community as a youth. Larry grew up and attended school at the Randolph County Training School in Roanoke, Alabama.
Perhaps the most active and exciting years of his life were the years he gave to serving in the United States Army. On November 8, 1967, Larry entered the U.S. Armed Forces at Montgomery, Alabama. He served about five years, traveling to both Germany, and Vietnam. During his military tour, Larry was decorated with several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, 4 OS BARS, and the Sharp Shooter M16. Having reached the rank of Seargent, Larry was honorably discharged from Military Service on December 22, 1972 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Upon Larry's return home, he worked for a short time in the lumber milling industry for the late Mr. Edward Ware aka "Sue" Ware.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae and two sisters, Trudy Turman, and Terlisa Turman, and a nephew, Thomas "Snoopy" McCray. He departed this life on Monday morning, March 20, 2017 at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, in LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia.
Larry is survived by his beloved sisters, Kathy Turman McCray, and Nita Turman Lane; his very special friend, Mrs. Diane Sims all of Roanoke, Alabama; nine (9) nephews, two (2) nieces, six (6) great nephews; nine (9) great nieces; one (1) great-great niece; and fifi nally but not least — many other loving relatives and friends.
