With deepest regret, we announce the passing from this life of Brother K.C. Stevens, 69 a resident of 1370 County Road 16, Roanoke, Alabama. Mr. Stevens transitioned from this life Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Traylor's Retirement Community in Roanoke, Alabama.
Public viewing and visiting hours for Mr. Stevens will be observed on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
The Home Going Service for Mr. Stevens will be observed on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 1:00 pm from the Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church, 1216 County Road 310, Roanoke, Alabama. The Reverend Elijah Jackson, Jr., pastor will serve as Eulogist. Other ministers sharing the roster include Reverend L.B. Houston, pastor of Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church, Roanoke, Alabama and Reverend William H. Trammell pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Standing Rock, Alabama.
Burial will follow in Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pall Bearers will include Friends of the Family; Flower Bearers will include granddaughters and nieces.
K.C. Stevens was born in Randolph County, Alabama on Janaury 24, 1949, to the parentage of the late Mr. K.C. Stevens, Sr., and the late Mrs. Emma Nell (Bell) Stevens.
K.C. attended and graduated from the historic Randolph County Training School which was located in Roanoke, Alabama at the time of his graduation.
On November 1, 1969, he married the former Miss Mattie Ruth Dean. Their union was blessed by the birth of two sons: Kenneth and Demerus.
K.C. was a life-long member of the Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church, where he was reared in a strong Christian home. On September 11, 2016, he was ordained an Honorary Deacon at Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church, by his brother-in-law, Pastor Elijah Jackson, Jr.
During his lifetime, he lost his limbs, but demonstrated courage by not allowing his disability to deter him from striving to improve himself and live with a great quality of life.
On October 10, 2001, KC was awarded "Employee Of The Year" award, by the Randolph County Area Committee on Employment Of People With Disabilities. The award read: for demonstrating personal courage, motivation, and outstanding performance in overcoming obstacles in your rehabilitation and for dedication shown in productive employment." This award was signed by former Alabama Governor Don Seigelman, and both the State and Local Chairs of the committee.
In December, 2017, he recieved a Certificate of Achievement from his health care providers, for no missed or shortened treatments.
K.C. enjoyed fishing and often enjoyed just parking his car and just observing people passing by.
For many years, he operated his own barber shop The "Short-Man's" Barber Shop here in Roanoke.
K.C. transitioned from this life on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. He was at Traylor's Retirement Community.
He is survived by a wonderful and loving family including his wife, Ms. Mattie Ruth Dean of Roanoke, Alabama; two (2) daughters, Malisa Cameron and Sabrina McCoy (George); four (4) sons: Kenneth Bell (Nacole), Demerus Bell, Kerry Dunson and Kelvin Battle (Sarah); two (2) brothers: Savoy Stevens (Deloris), Grady Stevens (Johnnie); five (5) sisters: Farris Jackson (Reverend Elijah Jackson, Jr.), Peggy Trammell (Ralph), Velma Henderson (Carl), Eva Phillips (Willie) and Ruby Jewel Morgan (Lou); his in-laws: Ethel Tucker, Bishop Gregory "Beck" Foster (Erma) of Goshen, Alabama; Dorothy Howard, Russell Michael, Leroy, Maudie and Jimmy Dean; two (2) aunts: Jean Owensby of Ohio, and Frances Whatley of Atlanta, Georgia; twenty (20) grandchildren; seven (7) great-grandchildren; and finally but not least, a host of loving relatives, neighbors, and friends.
