In Loving Memory of Mr. Eddie B. Foster, Jr.

Eddie B. Foster, Jr. was born in Chambers County, Alabama on February 5, 1937. Raised in the Dickert community, Eddie B's parents were the late Eddie B. and Annie Ruth (Smith) Foster. His mother's family arose from the Dickert community and his father's family origins were in Heard County, Georgia.

Although the middle initial "B" in his name really didn't stand for anything, somewhere along the way, he picked up the nickname "Bill" which followed him throughout his life.

At an early age, he quit school and very soon thereafter, started working in the lumber milling industry as a logger, which became his life's work for at least 40 years or more. He worked for Roy Lane at least 34 of those years. He also worked for Don Gay's Lumber Company.

On February 15, 1960, he married the love of his life, Annie Ruth Glenn, who preceded him in death. But, not before giving him many good years, three sons, and four daughters who God blessed her to see grow to adulthood.

Bill joined Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church in Roanoke, remaining a member there until his passing. For some time, he was very active in attendance, however as time and circumstance weighed upon him, both health and life limited his participation.

Perhaps one of the lowest points in his life came last year when he lost his son, Paul to a car accident. From that point forward, he seemingly began drifting away, losing his zeal for life.

Bill silently stole away to Jesus, on Wednesday morning, August 23, 2017, while resting quietly in his home. He would like to let you know that his work here is done. He exchanged this mortal life for immortality and a chance to reunite with loved ones he had not seen in a long time: such is his father and mother; his wife, Annie Ruth; his son, Paul; aunts, uncles and siblings who crossed that river many years ago. Not only will his family miss Bill. But our entire city and all the the neighborhoods throughout the historic East Roanoke district.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to his entire family: sons: Bishop Gregory Foster (Erma) of Troy, Alabama and Anthony Foster (Angelia) of Roanoke, Alabama; four (4) daughters: Shirley Ann Magby (Reverend Charlie Magby), Catherine Glenn and Renee Goss (Reverend Michael Goss), of Roanoke, Alabama, and Michelle Hall (Tony) of Orlando, Florida; nine (9) grandsons: Charlie Magby, Jr., Chris Heard, Germichael Foster, Anthony S. Foster, Justin Foster, Gregory M. Foster, Phillip Foster, Anthony D. Foster, Amon Hall; seven (7) granddaughters: Annessia Magby, Alliyah Magby, Janetta Foster, Eurika Foster, Janay Goss, Chelsea Goss, Gillian Dean; his only brother: Willie B. Foster of Roanoke, Alabama; three (3) sisters: Ruby Thomas of Defuniak Springs, Florida, Jannie Lou Logino of Atlanta, Georgia; and Katheryn Tucker (Arthur) of Roanoke, Alabama; nine (9) great grandchildren: Ciara Heard, Diamond Foster, Jordan Brown, Jamie King, Jemiah Magby, Eli Foster, Germany Foster, Dezire' Foster, and Journey King; finally but not least, a host of beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbors and friends.
