  • Ms. Mary Nelson, a native and long-time resident of Randolph County currently residing at 917 Alexandria Road, Weaver, Alabama 36277 transitioned from this life Thursday, November 8, 2012. Ms. Nelson was at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital, Anniston, Alabama.
  • Public Visitation and viewing hours will be observed on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, from 12:00 Noon until 6:00 pm at Clark Memorial Funeral Service in Roanoke, Alabama.
  • Ms. Nelson will be in state at the church one hour (12:00 noon until 1:00 pm) prior to the Funeral Services.
  • Funeral Services for Ms. Nelson will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Bethel United Methodist Church, 335 Avenue A, Roanoke, Alabama (where Reverend Anthony Sims serves as Pastor) with the Reverend Wendell Nails, officiating. Burial will follow in the Skyview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Roanoke, Alabama.

Biography

Our mother and grandmother, Mary E. Nelson returned to God’s loving arms on Thursday morning, November 8, 2012 around 5:23 am central standard time, as she turned away from this world and toward heaven. She was at the Stringfellow Memorial Hospital, Anniston, Alabama.

Mary E. Nelson is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert and Lizzie (Scott) McClendon born March 13, 1920, in Chambers County, Alabama. This was a large loving family of eleven children. She was the last surviving sibling of her family. During the early years of her life, she joined Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Welch, Alabama.

She married the late Elliott Nelson. Their union was completed by the birth of one son, and five daughters, who greatly enriched her life and enlarged her territory by the addition of their husbands, children, and grandchildren.

Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by one (1) son, David Nelson, two (2) grandsons: Eric Dimming and Terry Ferrell, one (1) great grandson: Christian Ferrell; and 10 siblings (5 brothers, and 5 sisters): Have McClendon, Lonnie B. McClendon, Aaron McClendon, Robert (Bob) McClendon, Jesse McClendon, and Lucille M. Hall, Willie L. Smith, Susie M. Phillips, Annie R. Foster, and Shirley A. Staples.

Mary Nelson was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who loved her children dearly, and gave many smiles to the world. She was loved, supported and will be missed by her five daughters: Evelyn Nails (Reverend Wendell Nails) and Mattie Moten (Henry) of Anniston, Alabama, Alabama, Francine Nelson of Tallassee, Alabama, Regina Sneller (James) of Roanoke, Alabama, and Lizzie Boyd (James) of Weaver, Alabama; her special son, Jerome Staples, Ohatchee, Alabama; twenty-two (22) grandchildren; forty-one (41) great grandchildren; and eleven (11) great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
