Marva Jean McLain was born in Wadley, Alabama, May 4, 1941 to the parentage of the late James and Lillie (Hunter) McLain. She lived out all of her days in Randolph County, where she graduated from Randolph County Training School, and grew as a disciple attending County Line Baptist Church. Growing up with Marva Jean were her siblings: Linda Laney, Michael McClain, Rodney McLain, Dewayne McLain, all of Wadley, Alabama; Jimmy McLain, Jennifer Sheldon, Elaine Sanders all of Pell City, Alabama; and Sharon Thomas and Peggy Green of Talladega, Alabama. She married Arthur Lee Battle and their fruitful union was blessed with four children: Clarice McLain and Bonnie Purvis (Melvin), Daryl Bernard Battle of Atlanta, and James Arthur Battle of Wadley (deceased). She was a wonderful wife and mother. She was a devoted member of County Line Baptist Church serving as church secretary, working with the matrons and missionary society. She quietly closed her eyes and slipped away from us on Monday, June 11, 2012, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. Joining the chorus of those who mourn her passing, are her five grandchildren: Tomarcus, Ebony, Darrell, Jr. and Joshua Battle and Merecia Woodgett, three great grandchildren: Jamarius Battle, Ashanti Woodgett, and Destiny Buchanan, and two very special friends, Alice Lewis of Daviston, Alabama and Jean Zachery of Wadley, Alabama
