Mrs. Marie Robinson Heflin, age 94, of Roanoke, Alabama, peacefully transitioned on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Coweta County, GA.
Born on September 14, 1931, in Lovejoy, GA, Marie was the daughter of Walter Robinson, a native of Georgia and Mrs. Annie Pearl (Trammell) Robinson, a native of Alabama. A lifelong resident of the Roanoke community, she was a faithful and devoted member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Her family originally worshipped at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in White Plains, Chambers County, before settling at Bethel United Methodist in Roanoke, where Marie served faithfully for most of her adult life. For many years, she was known as the church’s only usher and was also a dedicated member of the kitchen committee.
Marie was widowed in 2014 following the passing of her husband, Tommy Heflin.
She worked diligently in the textile industry for many years, including long-term employment with Candlewick Yarns in Roanoke, where she devoted nearly two decades before retiring. Known for her remarkable work ethic, Marie was meticulous, consistent, and matter-of-fact in all she did.
To her family, she was the cornerstone. With her own hands, she helped raise not only her children but generations of grandchildren. Her home was a gathering place, and her kitchen was her pride and joy. She was an exceptional cook who truly loved preparing meals for family and friends. Children were naturally drawn to her home, and her front yard became a welcoming place for many in the neighborhood.
Direct and firm when necessary, Marie was also deeply caring. Her family lovingly declares, “she was always there.” She also worked as a childcare provider and private sitter for the elderly during her productive years, extending her nurturing spirit beyond her own household.
She found simple joys in life — especially watching her beloved soap operas — and those who knew her understood not to interrupt her “stories.” She was gifted with an amazing, magical ability to grow things. Without question, she had a "green thumb." And it could be observed throughout her home and surroundings.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Vicky, Jerry Ann (Allen), Fred and Danny (Starr); three step children, Judy Heard, Annie Marie Jones, Willie Heard Jr.; her grandchildren, Bernard, Kesha, Marcus, Marilyn, Shaquille (Shanta), Marquis, Mackenzie (Tygee), Chantris and Fred, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Jenae, Jasmine, JaMeria, Trey, Harmony, Zachariah, Isla, Kaiser, Israel, Tyanna, Jordan, Tamea, Taquavious, Micah; bonus great grandchildren Jamarcus, JaCobbin, Canard; her great-great-grandchild, Kamauri; step-grandchildren Teresa Swanson, Charlotte Woody, Ernest Swanson, Jennifer Swanson, Lashawna Jennings; twelve step-great grandchildren; fourteen step-great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Ruby Trammell, Dollie Ruth Morgan, Dora Gibson; Goddaughter, Sharon Dean; and lastly but not least of all — a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marie was the oldest living member of Bethel, and one of the highlights of her life was being honored by Reverend Kelsey Barnes and members of Bethel for her years of service.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Tommy Heflin; son, Charles Jones; siblings, Ike Robinson, Beatrice Hill, Bessie Robinson, Cora Jean Robinson and Louella Robinson.
