With deepest regret, the Kelly family of Ashland, Alabama announces the passing from this life of their beloved aunt and great aunt, Mrs. Mae Etta (Crawford) Kelly, 90, a native and life-long resident of Ashland. Mrs. Kelly transitioned from this life on Monday evening, June 26, 2023 at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.
In Loving Memory Of Mae Etta Kelly
Mae Etta (Crawford) Kelly, age 90, transitioned from this life on June 26, 2023. Mrs. Mae was known and will be long remembered for her warm, beautiful smile and the sweet spirit she possessed. Mae was born to the late Larkin Crawford and the late Emma Simmons Crawford on October 4, 1932, in Clay County, Alabama and was a lifelong resident of Ashland, Alabama.
Mae graduated from Clay County Training School. After her schooling, she was employed as a processor at the Swift Chicken Plant for over twenty-five years. She was a member of the Mount Tabor United Methodist Church in Millerville, Alabama where she was a faithful Sunday school teacher. She was active in the United Methodist Church as Treasurer in the Women’s Society Of Christian Service, now known as The United Methodist Woman. Mae was a “Rose among Women.” She loved working outdoors. She would often spend her time fishing and was known for her gardening skills having a green thumb. She was a family matriarch; she was a wonderful housekeeper and loved babysitting for her friends and family.
She united in marriage with the late Ellis Kelly and for many years, they resided at Pine View Apartments in Ashland. For the past eight (8) years Mrs. Kelly resided at the Clay County Nursing Home, in Ashland.
Mae Etta Kelly was preceded in death by her husband, the late Ellis Kelly; and siblings: Emma Jean Austin, Francis Crawford, Johnny George Crawford, and Dottie Harmon, all of whom we believe greeted her at Heaven's Gates, and welcomed her into eternal rest.
Mae Etta leaves behind treasured memories in the heart of her surviving nephew, the Reverend Wiliam Crawford of Wedowee, Alabama; her loving niece, Laura Lawrence of Killen, Texas; a special friend, Bobbie Sandlin of Houston, Texas, and a host of other friends and family to mourn her passing.
