With deepest regret, we announce the passing from this life of Mr. Lawrence "Larry" Gaines, 66, a resident of 901 Government Street, Roanoke. Mr. Gaines transitioned from this life on Monday, February 24, 2020, at Grady Health Systems, Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Gaines was born August 22, 1953 to the late Henry Gene Gaines and Rose Estelle Gaines, in Youngstown, FL; He was married to the late Delores Gaines, with whom he fathered four children, two boys and two girls. Lawrence was a very hard worker, who loved being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. He had several hobbies, among them fishing, hunting, and drawing. He was affectionately known by his siblings as "Jack Rogers and Dose." Around the East Roanoke communities, Lawrence was fondly known as "Wild Man.'
In addition to both parents and his wife, Delores, Lawrence was also preceded in death by siblings: Bonnie Gaines, Latifah Muhammad (Edmond), Roy Gaines (Shirley), and Gene Gaines. He transitioned from this life on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Grady Health Systems in Atlanta, Fulton County, GA.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mr. Gaines' entire family, which includes: two (2) sons: Bobby Allen and Gary Allen, two (2) daughters: Melissa Hardnett (Ennis), Shontell Allen; four step-daughters: Demetria Staples, Shonda Hughley, Shannon Healy, Lucretia Hughley all of Roanoke; seven (7) sisters: Rosemary Potter (James) of Panama City, FL, Gladys Shumo (Clearence) of Dothan, AL, Tauheedah Bryan (David), Susan Johnson (Jerome), Ruth Hicks (Charles Hicks, deceased), all of Panama City, FL, Queen Smith (Hayward) of Atlanta GA, Sally Smith (Pete); five (5) brothers: Freddie Gaines (Ann), Jerry Gaines (Betty), David Gaines (Carrie), Ricky Gaines (Deborah), and Joseph Gaines all of Panama City, FL; fifteen (15) grandchildren: Kamisha Hughley, Terrance Hughey, Kenisha Hughley, Tyrell Hughley, Antonio Hughley, Precious, Hughley, Martez Battle, Cedric Dozier, Rodney Dozier Jr., Maurice Allen, Keremy Allen, Nakylia Allen, Shondrell Bell, Shakilious Carlisle, and Antrivian Allen; a special friend, Vera Mae Hughley of Roanoke, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
