Larry Battle Obituary

In Loving Memory Of Mr. Larry Battle
August 15, 1951 — November 4, 2025

With hearts filled with love and remembrance, the family of Mr. Larry Battle, age 74, announces his peaceful transition from this earthly life on Tuesday evening, November 4, 2025, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama, following a brief illness. At the time of his passing, Mr. Battle was a resident of the Clay County Nursing Home in Lineville, Alabama.

A native son of Cragford, Alabama, Mr. Larry Battle was born on August 15, 1951, to the late Loadis Battle and Lucy Mae (Bledsoe) Battle. He was a proud member of the County Line Missionary Baptist Church of Wadley, Alabama — a church deeply woven into the fabric of the Battle family’s history. Generations of their loved ones have worshiped, served, and been laid to rest in the sacred grounds of that beloved country church.

Larry spent many of his early adult years living in Suitland, Maryland, where he worked diligently as a groundskeeper and mechanic, first with Beaver Creek Shop in Wadley, and later with St. Elizabeth Hospital in Maryland, from which he retired. Upon his return to Alabama, he also worked with the Clay County Road Department until declining health ended his public employment journey.  Larry's quiet strength, reliability, and humble work ethic endeared him to friends and co-workers alike.    Larry was a proud Veteran Of the United States Army Maryland National Guard, where he served our grateful nation with distinction from October 15, 1977 until October 14, 1983, when he was honorably discharged from active service.   During his time residing in the D.C./Maryland area, he was also a zealous fan of the Washington Commanders.

A man of simple pleasures and genuine heart, Mr. Battle returned home to Alabama in later years, where he found peace among family and familiar surroundings. Though life brought its share of challenges, he faced them with quiet courage, dignity, and a steadfast faith in God.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved parents: Loadis & Lucy Battle; only brother, Charles Battle; two sisters: Mae Vann and Yvonne Long;  one brother-in-law, Horace Burney along with many others who now welcome him into that great cloud of witnesses.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Mr. Kelvin Andre Battle of Landover, Maryland; three devoted sisters, Mrs. Glenda (Battle) Burney of Lineville, Alabama, and Mrs. Nida (Battle) Anderson of Wadley, Alabama, Christine Moon of Toledo, OH; one sister-in-law, Margaret Battle of Wadley, AL; two nephews, Kelvin Battle (Sarah) of Lineville, AL, and Kerry Anderson of Oxford, AL; and five nieces, Yolanda Jones (Ernest) of Roanoke, AL, Miranda Poole (Gary) of Clarksville, TN, LaKeisha Anderson of LaGrange, GA, Wendy Battle of Auburn, AL, Tori Burney of Roanoke, AL; and lastly, Tony Drake of Montgomery, AL, a very close lifelong friend who was just like a brother.  Finally, Larry is also remembered by a host of extended relatives, church family, and friends who will forever hold him dear; and finally a great host of nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at his beloved County Line Baptist Church in Wadley, Alabama, with Reverend Rickey L. Cofield, Pastor, expected to officiate and deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the County Line Baptist Church Cemetery.
