With deepest regret, we announce the passing from this life of Lamont Phillips, 42, a Roanoke native, currently residng at 204 Northfield Drive, LaGrange,Georgia. Mr. Phillips transitioned on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Avalon Health and Rehabilitation Center in Newnan, Georgia.
Public viewing and visiting hours for Mr. Phillips will be Friday, October 12, 2018 from 1:00 until 6:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be observed Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the Christian Memorial Baptist Church, 1644 U.S. Highway 431 North, with Pastor J. Burnett Jackson, Officiating, Reverend Kelsey Barnes, Eulogist, Reverend William H. Trammell, and Reverend William Phillips sharing the roster.
Burial will follow in the Finely Cemetery, LaFayette, Chambers County, Alabama.
Serving As Pall Bearers will be: Jason Nelson, Kenneth Bell, Terrence Pettway, Rochell Callaway, Michael Callaway, Corey Trammell
Serving as Flower Attendants will be: Classmates, Friends & Family.
Lamont was born May 30, 1976, in Randolph County, Alabama to the parentage of Mrs. Sharon Phillps and the late Curtis Watts (aka) Jody. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Robert "Co-Co" Foster.
At an early age, Lamont joined Bethel United Methodist Church in Roanoke, where he attended regularly and participated as a youth. He grew up in the historic East Roanoke community, attending Handley High School, and participating in the athetic programs in school. He was always athletic, and energetic about personal fitness and his exercise regimen.
For more than eighteen years, Lamont worked as a truck driver for GFA Transportation, Inc. out of Valley, Alabama. He continued to serve this employer until overtaken by an illness that could only be overcome in death.
Lamont transitioned from this life on Saturday morning, October 6, 2018 at Avalon Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Newnan, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife Angela Shephard of LaGrange, Georgia; his devoted mother, Mrs. Sharon Morgan Phillips of Roanoke, Alabama; three (3) sons: Shajuan Phillips and Shamar Houston both of Richmond, Virginia, and Jalin Shephard of LaGrange, Georgia; one (1) brother, Harold Phillips of Chesapeake, Virginia; two (2) sisters: Christino Phillips and Lisa Allen, both of Roanoke, Alabama; seven (7) aunts: Rosie Phillips, Sallie Watts, Mary Baker, Ester Morgan, Dottie Ruth Morgan, Linda Paige Morgan all of Roanoke, Alabama; and Emma Morgan of Chicago, Illinois; and two (2) uncles: Johnny Frank Morgan, and Bobby Morgan, both of Roanoke, Alabama; finally but certainly not least, two nephews: Jason Wilson of Chesapeake, Virginia and Belal Allen of Roanoke, Alabama; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
