Katie Hendricks Obituary

With deepest regret we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Katie Ruth Hendricks, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026,  at Traylor Health & Rehab in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama.

Mrs. Katie Ruth Hendricks, age 94, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Mrs. Hendricks was born on December 7, 1931. She is the beloved widow of the late Deacon John E. Hendricks, who preceded her in death April 16, 2009.  She is survived by two sons: Gregory Hendricks and Chris Hendricks both of Roanoke; and a daughter, Mrs. Terita Hendricks Staples also of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.  A long-standing member of the Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church, Roanoke, Mrs. Hendricks devoted her entire life to faith and serving in her church, her family, hard work, and service.

In Loving Memory Of Katie Ruth Hendricks

Katie Ruth (Chappell) Hendricks was born December 7, 1931 to the late Jim Chappell, Sr. and Bernice Robinson Chappell in Wedowee, Alabama.   She was one of eight children.  Katie joined Zion Rest Baptist Church in Wedowee, AL at an early age.   

Katie attended Alabama State University graduating with an Associate Degree in Education.  Katie taught school at Woodland High School and Bertch Elementary School for several years.  While teaching school there, Katie met the love of her life, the late John E. Hendricks, Jr., and to their union three children were born: Gregory Hendricks, Christopher Hendricks, and Terita Staples.  Upon marriage to her beloved husband, she united with him at Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church in Roanoke, AL where they lived and worshipped throughout their marriage.  Katie was a faithful member and served as President of the Missionary Society.   

Katie Ruth also worked at Palm Beach Company for many years.  She loved and enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death are: her parents, Jim and Bernice Chappell, her beloved husband, John E. Hendricks, her sisters: Mrs. Curtis Mae Green, Mrs. Mable Smith, Mrs. Gracie Marie Joiner, Miss Jimmy Lee Chappell, and her brother, Mr. Jim Chappell, Jr., three great-grandchildren: Terita, Dakari, & Jamia.  

Katie Ruth leaves behind to cherish her memories: three children: Gregory Hendricks, Christopher Hendricks (Georgia), and Terita Staples (Tommy) all of Roanoke, AL; two sisters: Barbara Ann Summerville, and Shirley Izora Sims of Wedowee, AL; a sister-in-law, Josephine Chappell of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren: Latoya Carter (Carlos) of Columbus, GA, Wendell Hendricks, Lamar Hendricks, and Christopher Heard all of Roanoke; Johnathan Drummond and Amanda Drummond of Lineville, AL and Yashia Goss of Roanoke; nine great grandchildren: Aquemini, Latoria, Daevion, Imani, Zaniya, Kiandre, Malayah, Jamarion and Zylin; four great-great grandchildren: A'kari, Aquemini, Jr., Kartier and Kaleb; a bonus granddaughter, Penny McGuire; and a special friend, Cecolia Williams;  and finally, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends. 

We express our deepest and sincere thanks to the Traylor Health and Rehab Staff, and Southeast Hospice.
