The Obituary

John Henry “Head” Langston was born March 29, 1941, in Wedowee, Alabama to the union of the late Thomas and Estella Langston. He departed this life on December 27, 2012 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika Alabama at the age of 71.

John attended school in Randolph County Training School in Roanoke, Alabama, and started working at an early age in the Union construction industry. He began working in the construction industry at a time when many African American men from the Randolph County area, found themselves having to commute to Atlanta to find jobs working for companies such as Holder, Capital Constructions, and Brick Builders to name a few to receive a decent pay. John’s work history would span from the 60’s to the mid 90’s building up Atlanta’s metropolitan area with major complexes like the Atlanta’s Coca Cola plant, the Omni Coliseum, Marriott , and the Georgia World Congress Center. He helped make Atlanta one of the country's top convention cities, before he was forced into an early retirement due to an injury. John touched the lives everyone that knew him with his sarcastic wit and boastful humor.

On April 23, 1961 John was united in Holy Matrimony to Icie B. Knight. To this union God bestowed upon them four children, two sons: Victor Langston Sr.(wife Harriet) of Manhattan, Kansas, and Terry S. Langston ( wife Wendy) of Wedowee, Alabama, two daughters: Tracy A. Langston (husband Emanuel Clark Sr.) of Roanoke, Alabama, and Yukia V. Langston of Opelika, Alabama.

He is preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas Odell Langston of LaGrange, Georgia, James ”Brown” Langston of Bowden, Georgia, William Langston of Atlanta, Georgia, Edward Washington “Louie” Langston of LaGrange, Georgia, and one sister: Elizabeth “Sister” Langston of Wedowee, Alabama.
