Jimmie Knight,, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Jimmie Knight, Sr., also known as “Red”, age 85, a native of Wedowee, Alabama and long-time resident 143 Hub Street, Ozark, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Dale Medical Center, 126 Hospital Avenue, Ozark.

Public viewing and visitation hours for Mr. Knight will be observed on Monday, December 24, 2012 between the hours of 12:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Mr. Knight will lie in State at the church one hour prior to funeral services. Funeral Services for Mr. Knight will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 1:00 O'Clock PM at the Canaan Baptist Church Baptist Church, 2738 Co Rd 815 Wedowee, Alabama 36278. Officiating will be the Pastor, Reverend A. J. Sims.

Burial will follow in the Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery, 2738 Co Rd 815 Wedowee, Alabama 36278, immediately after the service.

The Obituary

Jimmie Lee Knight, Sr., also known as “Red” was born March 15, 1927, in Wedowee, Alabama to the late Lee and Lizzie (Bussey) Knight. He departed this life on December 18, 2012 in Ozark, Alabama at the age of 85.

At an early age, he joined the Canaan Baptist Church in Wedowee. He was a member of the Greater Sardis Baptist Church, Ozark, Alabama.

On October 18, 1950, he enlisted in the United States Army in Los Angeles, California, and served our grateful nation for three years, earning the rank of Private 2nd Class (E-1), during the Korean Conflict. His military decorations included the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal and finally the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from the United States Armed Services on December 14, 1953. After re-entering civilian life, he worked for several years in the Steel Industry, for United States Steel Corporation.

He married the late Elizabeth Langston Knight, with whom he parented five children: four (4) sons: Jimmy L. Knight, Jr. (Barbara), Henry Knight of Oklahoma, and Alton Knight of Ozark, Alabama, Donald Knight (Judith) of Atlanta, Georgia; and one (1) daughter, Geneva Harvey of Gary, Indiana. He later married Feloria Knight, who preceded him in death. Their union
gave rise to the birth of one (1) son, Brandon Knight of Gary, Indiana.

Even later he wed Grace Sistrunk Knight, and through this union, gained a stepdaughter, Joan Wilson of Denver Colorado.

Jimmie Lee Knight, Sr. was preceded in death by one (1) son, Jimmy Terrell; two (2) brothers: Henry Knight and Charles Knight; one (1) granddaughter, Elizabeth Knight; and one (1) sister, Fannie Mae Sims.

He leaves to mourn his passing, celebrate his life and cherish many precious memories, his wife Grace Sistrunk Knight of Denver, Colorado; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Knight (Marilyn) of Gary, Indiana; three (3) sisters: Elnora Pate of California, Earline Brown of Massachusetts, Surlana Martin (Ivory) of East Chicago, Illinois; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
