With hearts both heavy and grateful, we celebrate the life and legacy of Ms. Jemecia Phillips, who peacefully transitioned from this life on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the age of 52, in the comfort of her home on Pine Valley Drive in Roanoke, Alabama. A lifelong resident of this close-knit community, Jemecia’s journey was one of quiet strength, perseverance, and deep love for those dearest to her.
Born on January 4, 1973, in Roanoke, Alabama, Jemecia was the beloved daughter of Mr. Jimmy Phillips and Mrs. Brenda Faye Stove Phillips. Raised in a home grounded in family values and Christian faith, she carried those same principles throughout her life. Jemecia was educated in nearby Opelika, where she graduated from Hallie Turner Private School — an achievement she was proud of and which reflected her commitment to personal growth and learning.
Although she never married, Jemecia's heart was full. She found her greatest joy in motherhood. She leaves behind one devoted son, Mr. Semaj Nunn, of Roanoke, Alabama, who was not only her child but also her constant companion, confidant, and greatest source of pride. Their bond was unbreakable — rooted in unconditional love and mutual respect.
That legacy of love continues through her granddaughter, Miss Skye Marie Nunn, also of Roanoke, who brought sparkle and sunshine into Jemecia’s life. Skye Marie was her "angel baby," and their moments together were treasured deeply.
Jemecia was a woman of faith. Though not a formal member, she attended Rehope Baptist Church in Five Points, where she was warmly received and spiritually nourished. Her Christian values were evident in the quiet compassion and kindness she extended to others.
Professionally, Jemecia was a self-employed private bus driver, serving in the transportation field for over 20 years. She was known by many for her reliability, friendly demeanor, and the gentle care she took with those she transported. Behind the wheel, she served her community —getting people where they needed to go, both literally and figuratively, with grace.
Despite facing serious health challenges in recent years, including enduring nine strokes and battling COVID, Jemecia’s resilient spirit never faltered. Her life was a testament to endurance in the face of difficulty and faith in the midst of uncertainty.
Her passing leaves a quiet space in the lives of her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her son; Ladarious (Da-Da) Phillips; and many loved ones and now rests peacefully among them. In addition to her son, Simaj Nunn; granddaughter, Skye Marie Nunn; mother, Brenda Faye Phillips; father, Jimmy Phillips; and grandmother, Audrey Phillips, all of Roanoke, Alabama; she is survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, extended relatives, friends, and community members whose lives she touched in meaningful ways.
Those who had the honor of knowing Jemecia will remember her for her soft-spoken presence, her enduring devotion to her family, and her dignified strength. Her memory will live on in every shared laugh, every warm embrace, and every quiet moment of reflection among those who loved her most.
