The Obituary
James Eugene Spratling was born to the parentage of the late George Spratling, Sr., and Lendie Buchanan in Daviston, Tallapoosa County, Alabama on March 3, 1940.
James confessed Christ at an early age and joined Cogar Hill C.M.E. Church in Daviston, Alabama where he remained a dedicated member and served faithfully throughout life. There he served as a Trustee of the church.
He was united in marriage with Ms. Velma Burns. Their union gave rise to five loving children, including two sons and three daughters.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Jim Frank Spratling, Robert Spratling, R.T. Lewis and George Spratling, Jr.;and four sisters Dora Spratling, Geneva Battle, Roberta Spratling, Ella Belle Spratling;
James Eugene Spratling departed this life on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Lake Martin Community Hospital in Dadeville, Alabama.
He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish many loving memories: his wife, Velma Burns Spratling of Newsite, Alabama; two (2) sons: Gene Spratling, Jr. (Lavenia) and Derrick Spratling, both of Daviston, Alabama; three (3) daughters: Beverly Spratling Shealey, Ami Millner (Barry) of Daviston, Alabama, and Kim Loraine Johnson (Kevin) of Sylacauga, Alabama; twelve (12) grandchildren; four (4) great grandchildren; very special friends, including the Oliver Family, the Russell Family and the Buchanan Family; Darrell Staples, Jimmy (Blue) Spratling, Joe Staples, Preston MaCadory; and finally a great host of nieces, nephews other loving relatives and friends.
Memorial Tribute
I know you are going to hurt for a while
and sometimes even cry
You may find yourself asking “what if and if I”
and asking God “why?”
It may get hard knowing I won’t be there anymore
and you won’t be able to see my face
But if only you could see where I am today
you would know I’m in a better place.
I’m in a place where there are no more tears or sorrow
And I don’t have to hurt all the time
So you don’t have to worry about me
because Mr. James Eugene Spratling is doing just fine.
I know you wish I could still be there with you today,
but my God had a better plan.
He came and took me by my hand and took me home
He told me my battle was over my race had been won
He opened up those Heavenly Gates and said
“Welcome home my child, welcome home”
