With profound sadness, the Hill and Collins families of Roanoke announce the passing of our cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, James Rogers Hill. At the age of 68, James departed this life on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at his residence in Roanoke, Alabama. During this time of mourning, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from friends and family. Your prayers and comforting words are deeply appreciated. Services for Mr. Hill are pending and will be announced.
A Life Well Lived
Born on January 24, 1956, in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama, James was the beloved son of the late Sam Hill and Mary Jeanette (Collins) Hill. He grew up in the close-knit Historic East Roanoke Community and received his education at the Historic Randolph County Training School (R.C.T.S.).
James had a natural aptitude for the automobile industry, excelling in tire repair and mechanical work. His dedication to his craft was evident during his more than 20 years of service at Okay Tire Company in Roanoke, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and customers alike.
Family and Legacy
James was blessed with a loving family. After two previous marriages, he found happiness with his third wife, the late Willie Mae (Stowes) Hill, who preceded him in death on July 18, 1997. Together, they shared a life briefly in Alexander City, Tallapoosa County, Alabama, before James returned to Roanoke following her passing.
James was preceded in death by his siblings Barbara Hill, Karen Hill, Donnie Hill, and his beloved mother, Mary Jeanette Hill. His later years were marked by health challenges, leading to his residence in a long-term care facility for the past five years. On January 15, James peacefully transitioned to his eternal home, free from pain and embraced in the love of the Lord.
Cherished Memories
James leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his two sons, Jeremy Satterwhite of Five Points, and Michael Lamar Hill of Atlanta; his daughter, Miranda Hill of Roanoke; his brother, Kenneth Hill; and his two sisters, Pamela Hill of Wadley and Tiffany Hill of Roanoke. He will also be fondly remembered by his special friend, Curtis Joiner of Roanoke, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
As we celebrate the life of James Rogers Hill, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, reunited with his loved ones in the presence of our Lord.
