It is with heavy hearts that the Holloway family of Chicago, IL, formerly of Wedowee, must share the heartbreaking news that our amazing father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, affectionately known by many as "Henry B" has left us. "Henry B" was an enthusiastic Father, Grandfather, Deacon, a skillful mechanic and builder; strong, steadfast, stern, and loving. Our family is deeply hurt at this time, and in need of your prayers throughout the grieving process. Thank you for the love and prayers that our communities both in Illinois and here in Alabama have already showered upon us. More details will be forthcoming.
Henry B. Holloway, affectionately known as "Mr. Henry", was born April 12, 1944, to the late Jack and Mattie Lee Holloway in Wedowee, Randolph County, AL. To the union of Jack and Mattie Lee Holloway, eight (8) children were born: three (3) sisters: Mattie Bell and Sherlie Ann, (predeceased), and Annie Coleman; three (3) brothers: Thomas, Jackie, and Jessie Lee (predeceased) and Albert Lee. Of those eight Holloway siblings, Henry was the third eldest. "Henry B" accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age at The Union Chapel Methodist Church in Wedowee. He attended Wedowee Elementary and High School.
Henry was known to have gifted hands, always looking to build or fix something. As a young man, "B" would help his family around the farm and later got a job as a lumberjack. Eventually, Henry would find his passion, which was cars. He started working for Chevrolet in Wedowee as a mechanic.
Shortly after being married in 1962, Henry and Murrie moved to Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago, Henry worked at a machine shop with his brothers Jackie and Thomas. He then worked for a welding company. Nine years later to their union, four children were born: Henry J., Jermaine, Jermichael, and Jernise (predeceased). "Henry B" was a faithful and loving husband. He was a great father and led by example of what a hardworking man should look like. He believed in teaching his sons life skills/trades to eventually become amazing men one day themselves. Henry raised his sons to be upstanding men. When he was being stern and showed tough love, little did they know that he was instilling greatness in them.
Henry eventually found his way back to his first love which was cars. He began working at many places in the car business as a mechanic. He worked for over 40 years in the car industry and retired from Oakfield Ford as a transmission mechanic. Everyone knew that if something was wrong with your car, you would take your car to one person and that it was "Mr. Henry". He would always fix the problem great or small. Henry was also known for building things. He would always be outside working on his lawn or you could always catch him in his garage listening to the Blues while working on cars or building stuff. Henry loved taking road trips back to his hometown, Wedowee, AL, every chance he got. Outside of his love for his wife, children and cars, Henry never forgot his roots and eventually furthered his Christian Journey under the leadership of his first-born Bishop Holloway where he eventually became a Deacon at The Word Church until his health started to fail.
Henry loved his grandchildren. He treated them as if they were his children. They were all spoiled. He was "Pa-Pa" and to them... He was superman. Henry was a strong man at heart and physically. The entire neighborhood loved and respected "Mr. Henry".
On December 29th, 2024, Henry heard that heaven had a need for a handyman that was gifted with his hands, so God decided to pull Henry's resume' to see if he was the perfect man for the job and to God's approval, Henry was exactly who God needed.
Henry B. Holloway leaves to cherish his loving memory: his three (3) children: Henry J., Jermaine, and Jermichael; three (3) daughters-in-love: Cynthia, Sarah, and Robin; eleven (11) grandchildren: Jacquisia, Jannel, Tatyana, Yakira, Jasmine, Jermichael, Jr., Janyah, Alaina, Emerson, Jaylen, and Eve Marie; four (4) great-grandchildren: Ja'Kyri, Amir, Kali, and Thailand; his two (2) siblings Albert (JoAnn) and Annie (Delbert); a host of honorary children and grandchildren; and finally, a host of nieces and nephews. Henry is now joined again by his mother, father, sister, and brothers. Most importantly, Henry is now reunited with the love of his life, Murrie Holloway, and their baby girl, Jernise.
