Geraldine Boyd Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the loss of a beloved mother and grandmother, Mrs. Geraldine Virginia (Rutlin) Boyd, 78, of Anniston, Alabama.  In loving memory of Mrs. Boyd, we are saddened to announce her passing on September 10, 2026 at Northeast Regional Medical Center, Anniston, Alabama.   A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.  We respectfully join this family in mourning the passing of Mrs. Boyd.

Born to the parentage of the late Charlie Will Rutlin, and Anna (Tyler) Rutlin, Geraldine was born in Wedowee, Randolph County, Alabama. on December 2, 1948.  At an early age, she joined Antioch Baptist Church in Wedowee, Alabama, where she remained a member until she passed from this life.   "Dine" as her sister Margaret recalled, attended school at what was formerly "Wedowee High School" which was the predominantly black high school in Wedowee, operating under the "Separate-But-Equal" doctrine.  She rose to the level of Freshman at Wedowee High.  Geraldine later married the late Mr. Johnny Ray Boyd, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Boyd was also preceded in death by a beloved son, Johnny Ray Boyd, Jr., and daughter, Theresa Boyd.

With the objective of seeking medical care for her son, Johnny Ray, Jr., who suffered from Muscular Dystrophy, Geraldine chose to relocate to Auburn, AL, where she resided for 17 years.  However, after 17 years, she relocated to Anniston, AL to be near her granddaughter and caregiver, Brittany Berry Kirksy.  Whenever she could manage travel, she enjoyed frequent trips to Wetumpka, AL, to visit the Wind Creek Casino, which she loved to do.  This entertainment venue made her happy, and gave her a lot of joy.  Over her lifetime, Geraldine's work experience included Private Sitting, employment at Perryland farms i Wedowee, AL, and Sewell Manufacturing Company, Bowdon, GA.

In addition to her beloved son, Johnny Ray Boyd, and daughter, Theresa Boyd, Geraldine was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Rutlin of Alexander City, AL, and Jerry Rutlin of Wedowee, AL.   Her swift and unexpected transition occurred on Wednesday morning, September 9, 2026, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Anniston, AL.

Mrs. Boyd gave many smiles to the world, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Her loved ones include her only surviving son, Mr. Earl Boyd (Tammi Brooks) of Lagrange, GA; four (4) grandchildren; three (3) great-grandchildren: a special granddaughter and caregiver, Brittany Berry Kirksy (Robert Kirksy) of Anniston, AL; two sisters: Margaret Rutlin of Alexander City, AL, and Ann Rutlin of Lineville, AL; and many other loving relatives, neighbors and friends who thought the world of her.
