With hearts of gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Ms. Fannie Mae Stitt, age 95, of Roanoke, Alabama, announces her peaceful passing.
Ms. Fannie Mae Stitt was born on August 2, 1930, in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama, to the late Mr. Gilbert Stitt and Mrs. Rosie Johnson Ross. A lifelong resident of the community, Fannie was deeply rooted in faith, love, and humble service. She was nurtured in the Christian faith as a child at Mount Olive United Methodist Church in the Dickert Community of Wadley, Alabama, where she remained a devoted member throughout her life.
Fannie found great purpose in caring for others through her work as a housekeeper, a calling she embraced with diligence and pride. For many years she was employed by the Phillips Family of downtown Roanoke, where her quiet spirit, faithfulness, and integrity endeared her to everyone she served. Even after retirement, she continued to take joy in keeping her surroundings neat and welcoming.
In later years, Ms. Stitt made her home at Traylor Retirement Community in Roanoke. She delighted in her life there—helping wherever she could, working puzzle books, and spending time with her many friends. She often told her loved ones how much she enjoyed the companionship and simple pleasures of her days at the nursing home. Her cheerfulness and kind words brightened the lives of residents and staff alike.
Though she never married and had no children of her own, Ms. Stitt’s life overflowed with love and connection. Her family circle centers on her devoted niece, caregiver, and legal representative, Mrs. Mary Ann (Houston) Finley, and husband, Bobby, of Roanoke, Alabama. Mrs. Finley’s steadfast care and affection brought Fannie comfort and peace throughout her later years.
Aside from her father, Gilbert Stitt, and mother Rosie Johnson Ross, Fannie was preceded in death by her only sibling, her sister, Lorene Elizabeth (Green) Houston, and brother-in-law Willie Lewis Houston. Her earthly journey leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humility, and joy in simple living. She will be remembered for her gentle smile, her caring spirit, and her unwavering faith. She now rests in the eternal care of her Savior, reunited with her beloved parents and the many family members who have gone on before her.
