Ethel was born in Chambers County, Alabama October 9, 1950 to the parentage of the late Rufus and Mattie Lee Burrow. She was one of 13 children -- six (6) sons and seven (7) daughters born to this parentage. Ethel was preceded in death by three brothers: Wyatt Burrow, Ocie B. Burrow, and "Lil' Brother" who died in infancy; and six sisters: Annarine Clark, Rudine Paige, Gertrude Kettles, Annie Kate Burrow (who died in infancy), Deborah Heflin and most recently her sister Mattie Ruth Lee. Also preceding her were her parents, and grandparents, the late Mary (Staples) Briskey and Green Briskey and the late Wyatt and Ida Burrow.
She graduated from Phillips High School in 1969. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and grew to be faithful to the word of God attending Rehope Baptist Church.
Over the course of her life, she moved from Roanoke, Alabama to Washington, DC to start her career. She attended Howard Universary, and GSA Graduate School, completing her studies in 2001. From April 19, 1982 to January 31, 2013 Ethel worked as a Manager Contract Specialist for National Park Service. Her retirement meant having to leave so many friends we would love to mention, but thank God, HE knows them all. One special friend, Minister Viola L. Washington of Capital Heights, Maryland, whom Ethel loved talking about. Nevertheless she returned home to be closer to her family. She joined Canaan Baptist Church, where she served the Lord with passion.
On Friday, January 25, 2019, God called her name. So Ethel went to our Heavenly Home to be with the Lord.
Many cherished memories of Ethel remain -- as a dedicated mother to her only son, whom she was grateful to the Lord for, Parrish Demetrius Burrow of Roanoke, Alabama; by her very special, dedicated nephew, Jesse Lewis Lee (Lesia Abner); by a very special, dedicated niece, who was with her at the end of this journey, Virginia D. Lee of Roanoke, Alabama; her niece, Patricia L. Allen of Albany, New York, whom she loved; three (3) brothers: Nathaniel Burrow, William Lee "Shane" Burrow and Cleophus Burrow (Louise) all of Roanoke, Alabama; one (1) brother-in-law, Leon Heflin also of Roanoke; special dedicated friends: Reverend Luther Phillips and William "Zack" Zachary; and finally a host of lovely nieces, nephews, cousins; her church family at Canaan Baptist Church (Welch) and Rehope Missionary Baptist Church (LaFayette); and many wonderful neighbors, other loving relatives and friends.
