It is with deepest and heartfelt sympathy that we inform you of the passing from this life of Ms. Eria Mae Hughley, 78, a long-time resident of 934 Heflin Avenue, Roanoke, Alabama. Ms. Hughley peacefully transitioned from this life on Friday evening, January 29, 2021, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, Lee County, Alabama.
Ms. Eria Mae Hughley was born in Chambers County, Alabama on March 25, 1942, to the parentage of the late Sammie Lee Hughley, Sr. and Eris Bonner Hughley. She grew up here in the historic Roanoke community, attending the Randolph County Training School. She was a dedicated and long-time member of the East Roanoke Pure Holiness Church in Roanoke, where she faithfully served and worked out her soul salvation. Ms. Eria devoted her life to raising and loving her eight children and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren that they blessed her with. Moreover, she devoted 48 years of her life to providing her service as a housekeeper for Bill and Sandra Vinson.
Ms. Eria was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Doris Burnett. After walking with Jesus for 78 beautiful years, she peacefully transitioned from this life on January 29, 2021, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, Lee County, Alabama.
Ms. Eria was deeply loved, adored -- and now missed -- by her children and grandchildren and other loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hughley family which includes five (5) sons: James Hughley, Alan Hughley, Charles Hughley, Jimmy Hughley, and Malito Hughley all of Roanoke, AL; and two (2) daughters: Cindy Dennis of Fairburn, GA and Contina Thomas of Roanoke, AL; one (1) brother, Sammie Lee Hughley of Atlanta, GA; "Bonus Children": Bishop Tom Staples, Jr., Betty Jo Daniels, Annette Stallworth, and Kathy Staples; five (5) sisters: Flora Hughley of Atlanta, GA, Katie Thomas, Alma Owensby, Barbara Thomas, and Priscilla Allen, all of Roanoke, AL; eleven (11) grandchildren; eleven (11) great-grandchildren; her special family, Sandra and Todd Vinson and a host of other kindred and friends.
