With deepest regret we announce the peaceful passing of Ms. Ella Catherine Huffman, on Friday, December 5, 2025, while attending a church function at Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Five Points, Alabama.
Ms. Ella Catherine Huffman, age 80, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on Friday, December 5, 2025, while attending a church function at Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Five Points, Alabama. Ms. Huffman was born on July 21, 1945, in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama. She is the beloved daughter of the late Mr. Earnest Huffman and the late Mrs. Viola Potter Huffman, and she devoted her life to faith, family, hard work, and service.
Dating back to her childhood, Ms. Huffman was a dedicated member of the Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Roanoke, AL, where she faithfully served in numerous capacities. She was a graduate of the historic Randolph County Training School Class of 1963. After graduation from high school, she attended the beloved HBCU, Tuskegee University, in Tuskegee, AL, and later received her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
For many years, Ms. Huffman served as a dedicated U.S. Government Employee, building a career marked by reliability, excellence, and a steadfast commitment to the sacred duties placed under her watch. After more than two decades, she exited the workforce and transitioned to retirement. Ella returned to Roanoke, AL in 2010, where she turned her attention away from the daily hustle of public sector work and settled into small-town life. She dedicated herself to church, community and family. Her return home brought with it the responsibility of caring for her mother, Mrs. Viola Huffman, to whom she gave her undivided attention until she transitioned.
During her time here on earth Ella Huffman was faithful in all activities, especially in serving the community. In Spokane, Washington she was a dedicated member of St Matthews Baptist Church serving as a Trustee, a member of the church board, Sunday school and choir. She served her community as an active member of the Sheila Chapter of the Eastern Stars, NAACP, 1000 Black
Women, African American Graduation Committee and Blacks in Government.
In Roanoke, Alabama Ms. Huffman visited the sick, gave to the needy and faithfully served her church, St Paul Missionary Baptist Church as a Trustee, Sunday School teacher and President of the Missionary Society. She was a faithful Pantry Hour participant at the St. Paul United Methodist church in Five Points, Alabama. She served as a member of the East Alabama Union District, President of the St Paul Missionary Baptist Church Missionary Society, Member of the Northeast District Convention, President over the 14 local Presidents of East Alabama, and an active member of East Alabama Hospice.
In addition to her beloved parents, Ms. Huffman was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Dr. Stacey Johnson Webb; her grandparents — both maternal and paternal — Samuel & Ella Potter and Jim & Pauline Huffman; a beloved sister, Dr. Earnestine Huffman White, beloved brother-in-law Robert E Molett and nephew Marques C Molett.
She now leaves to cherish beautiful memories: her only son, Mr. Ellis E Johnson II and a beloved daughter, Stephania JohnsonToney (Gary), both of San Antonio, TX; sibling Darnell Rowell (Pete), Voncille Molett, and Charles E Huffman; and uncle Herman Huffman; along with the following grandchildren: Madu X (Ronni), Aisha X-Barnes (Raynard), Jasmine Engle (Christian), Aaron McAlinden, Emmanuel Toney, Jonathan Toney, Benjamin Toney, and LaSalle Webb; one great grandson, Raynard Barnes, III, a host of special nieces and nephews; Chawn White, Dierdre White Frederick (Navoy), Courtney White (Tonya), Fredrick Rowell (Amy), Brandon Molett, Charles Huffman II (Aja), Christopher Huffman (Cynthia) and Andrea Vaughn; brother-in-law Julius C White and son-in-law Christopher Webb; extended relatives, including her Saint Paul Baptist Church family in Roanoke, and many friends who were blessed by her strength, warmth, and gentle spirit.
Memorial services will be held January 3, 2026, 11:00 a.m., at St Paul MIssionary Baptist Church, 1144 Henry St, Roanoke, Alabama.
