It is with deepest and heartfelt sympathy that we inform you of the passing from this life of our beloved cousin, Mr. Eddie Ben Baker, 91, a resident of 58 County Road 611, Roanoke, Alabama. Mr. Baker transitioned from this life on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at his residence in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama.
Eddie Ben Baker began his life’s in Roanoke, Alabama on February 22, 1929. He was born to Jack Baker and Susie Ware Baker.
As a child, Ben accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and united with Wehadkee Baptist Church in Roanoke. While active in church, he served as a member of the Deacon and Laymen’s boards.
Ben met and was united in holy matrimony to Lavada Gates on March 5, 1949. They reared five children in this union. She preceded him in death on August 23, 1996. Throughout his adulthood, he worked on pipelines during the civil rights era, Handley Mills, and Amoco until his retirement.
Eddie Ben Baker peacefully transitioned on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at home surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, most of his siblings, and his eldest son, Eddie Robert.
He leaves to cherish his memory : one son, Bobby Baker, Lanett, AL; three daughters: Lizzie Gregg, Margaret Grady, and Deborah Chislom, all of Roanoke nine grandchildren: Michelle (George) Join-er, LaGrange, GA; Tracy Banks, Saginaw, MI; Vanessa Baker, Northport, AL; Mark Baker, Lineville, AL; Michael Grady, Kristie Digby, and Tasha Baker, all of Roanoke, AL; Tiffany Chislom, Lithonia, GA, Tarail (Tiesha) Grady, Opelika, AL and Raven Chislom, Roanoke, AL; nine great-grandchildren; five great, great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ora Bell Bailey, Ora Lee Chatman, and Georgia Lizzie Holliman, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
