Dorothy Washington Obituary

We, Dorothy's family, call this service a "Celebration Of Life," Because she herself celebrated life. Dorothy was a strong, positive-thinking, vibrant, and energetic young woman who loved and lived life to the fullest.

Dorothy was a proud person who demonstrated self-love by showing love to others. She put her whole self into everything she did. She loved her family — to the fullest. She was diligent and hardworking — to the fullest. And even when that old mountain of sickness became more difficult to climb, she continued to fight hard — to the fullest — she fought a good fight, and now has won victory! Hence, her life statement is before us:

On September 11, 1953, a rose fell from heaven. This little blossom was given the name Dorothy Frieson. Her parents were (the former Mr. and Mrs.) Clarence and Betty Louise (Morton) Fireson. She was the fourth of six children born in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, where she also grew up and attended Druid High School. She was preceded in death by an older brother, Clarence Frieson, Jr., (4/15/93).

As a young child, Dorothy united with the church of her family, the St. Paul Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, where she served as a member of the Usher Board. She remained a member of St. Paul until her home going.

As a young woman, Dorothy enthusiastically embarked upon motherhood when God favored her with two young sons. Eventually, on June 10, 1982, she married her high school sweetheart, Larry Washington. Their fruitful union of more than 12 years was blessed with a lovely daughter, Ashley. Dorothy was diligent in her efforts to nurture her children in every way. Because of her motherly influence, we know that her children will continue to grow into dynamic citizens of the world.

Dorothy worked for more than ten years at Sears Roebuck and Company in Tuscaloosa. In 1988, the Washington family left Tuscaloosa and relocated in Atlanta, Georgia where Dorothy continued to work at Sears Roebuck and Company. At the time of her passing, she was an employee of south Eastern News.

As an aspiring wife and mother, Dorothy approached life with confindence and forethought. But undoubtedly, God in his all-wise providence had another view. On Saturday, October 15, 1994, he exercised his authority and summoned Dorothy home. She was in the intensive care unit of Dekalb Medical Center, in Decatur, Georgia.

While great wealth and riches are not hers to leave behind, she does leave a vast treasury for all of her family to share. Abundant are the memories of Dorothy and the many ways she illuminated our lives. These memories will be cherished by her husband, Larry Washington of Atlanta, Georgia; her two sons: Jody Anderson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Burton Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia; her daughter Ashley Washington of Atlanta, Georgia; her mother, Mrs. Betty L. Frieson; her God-Father, Riley Stapp; her father, Clarence Frieson, Sr., and step-mother, Mrs. Cora Frieson all of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; her grandmother, Mrs. Harriett Morton resides in Columbus, Mississippi. There are two brothers: Willie James Frieson of Milpitas, California, and Warren Frieson of Boston, Massachusetts; two sisters: Mrs. Juanita Frieson Kimbrough of Birmingham, Alabama, and Ms. Shelia Frieson Prince of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Dorothy has five aunts: Mrs. Rose Starkling of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mrs. Martha Ella Belton of Columbus, Mississippi, Mrs. Pearlie Mae Morton of Cocoa, Florida, Mrs. Luberta Wright of Carrollton, Alabama, Mrs. Bertha McCoy of Houston, Texas. Moreover, there are two uncles that we would like to acknowledge for very special reasons: George Morton of Columbus, Mississippi, and James Colvin of Chicago, Illinois; and finally, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
