It is with deepest and heartfelt sympathy we inform you of the passing from this life of Mrs. Dorothy Mae Parker, 94, a resident of 1273 Stanley Avenue, Roanoke, Alabama. Mrs. Parker transitioned from this life on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Traylor Retirement Community, Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama.
Dorothy Mae Parker was born in the Rock Mills community, in Randolph County, Alabama to the parentage of the late John Henry Smith and Ella (Trammell) Smith on April 4, 1926. She was born into a large loving family of 12 children -- five (5) boys and seven (7) girls. The brothers were: J.W. Smith, Odell Smith, Jimmy Lee Smith, Eddie B. Smith, AB Smith; the sisters were: Laura Bell, Nosite Allen, Lena Tucker, Rose Wright, "Lil Sis" Smith, Lois T. Smith Dorothy was the last of her siblings.
At an early age, she joined Saint Paul Baptist Church, where in her younger years, she served on the Usher Board. She remained a member of Saint Paul until her homegoing.
Dorothy married the late James Parker, Sr. Their union gave rise to two sons: William Parker who preceded her in death, and James Parker, Jr. (Patricia) of Roanoke, Alabama. She enjoyed housekeeping work and worked as a housekeeper for various employers throughout her life. Unlike many homemakers, Dorothy didn't regard housekeeping chores as work. She loved cleaning, and she was known for keeping a very neat clean house. She also had a passion for gardening, planting and tending to flowers, and yard work. These were some of her favorite thing to do. When not occupied with her yard and garden, Dorothy indulged herself in television -- she loved soap operas and westerns.
