It is with our deepest and heartfelt sympathy that we announce the passing from this life of Deacon Donnie Ray Foster, 67, a resident of 468 Rebecca Lane, Apartment 15, Roanoke, Randolph County, AL. Deacon Foster transitioned from this life on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Traylor Retirement Community, 1235 Yancey Street, Roanoke.
Donnie Ray Foster, was born June 8, 1953, to the parentage of the late Lon Satterwhite and Catherine Foster. He remained in Roanoke for most of his life, which centered around his family and others he loved. But, truly, he was passionate about family.
He married the late Dorothy Jean (Ross) Foster, a native of West Virginia, who preceded him in death last July.
Donnie worked for more than thirty years in the logging industry, for The Shaddix Pulpwood Company in Lineville, Clay County, Alabama. Doing this work, Donnie was able to earn a decent living and take care of himself and his family.
Donnie was a dedicated member of the Pure Holiness Church Of God where he was recently ordained as a Deacon. This title meant the world to him. He shared this achievement with all his loved ones.
While Deacon Foster had no biological children, he none-the-less was a huge influence and played a major role in the lives of all his nieces and nephews. He cared for and helped to raise all those who entered the doors of his home. Donnie also enjoyed fishing. When his health began to decline, his brother-in-law stepped in to help. John Greathouse would go catch him some fish, clean, and hand-deliver to him. All he had to do was cook and enjoy. Our family member was loved and VERY SPOILED!
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Donnie was preceded in death by his mother Catherine Foster and one (1) sister, Florine Zachery. Having walked with God for 67 years, he transitioned from this life between midnight and dawn of Wednesday morning, February 24, 2021, at the Traylor Retirement Community in Roanoke.
Deacon Foster leaves to cherish many loving memories, three (3) devoted sisters: Barbara A. Greathouse (Bishop John C. Greathouse) and Earnestine Foster (Sylvester) both of Roanoke; and Mary A. Ester (Roy) of Calumet City, IL; one aunt, Edna Blake (Britt) and one (1) niece, Cora Lee Ware; two (2) great-nieces, Sybil Alvarez and Sandra Henderson all of Roanoke. Lastly but certainly not least, this list would not be complete without mentioning his two (2) very special life-long friends, Judge George Diamond, and Mrs. Sarah Drummond. At the end of the day, Donnie had a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many others that he cared for as his very own.
