It is with profound sorrow and abiding love that the family of Ms. Debbie Marie Johnson announces her peaceful transition from this life on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Emory Midtown Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. A lifelong resident of Roanoke, Alabama, Debbie was 57 years old.
Born on November 5, 1967, at Randolph County Hospital, Debbie was the beloved daughter of the late Roy Finch and the late Melvinnie Johnson Ware. She was a graduate of the local school system and went on to dedicate herself as a hard-working factory employee within the textile industry. She was known for her incredible work ethic, her generous heart, and her unwavering love for her family.
Debbie was a Christian by faith and attended First Baptist Church on Riley Street in Roanoke. Her life was a beautiful testimony of compassion and resilience. She found joy in life’s simple, yet deeply meaningful pleasures. She adored cooking and was widely admired for her homemade banana pudding and strawberry shortcake—desserts that became staples at family gatherings. Debbie loved being in the company of her family and friends, taking scenic road trips, and caring for elderly neighbors and friends. Long before her health declined, she could often be found walking at the local track, taking in the fresh air and reflecting. She had a love for softball in her younger years and carried that same playful spirit throughout her life. She also found peace in working diligently, taking pride in every task she undertook..
Above all, Debbie loved deeply. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother and held a special place in her heart for her devoted companion and husband, Mr. Reginald McClendon of Talladega, Alabama. Their bond was a testament to love, loyalty, and shared dreams.
Debbie leaves a lasting legacy in the hearts of those who survive her: her loving son, Quandaris Johnson of Roanoke, AL; two adored granddaughters, Kha-Sleigh Johnson and Treasure Daniel, also of Roanoke; and her devoted brother, Tracey Johnson, of Roanoke, AL. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who held her in great esteem and affection: Felecia Johnson, Chinetta Peabody, Gwen Davis, Terry Ware, Nikki Ware, Tierra Cofield-Rudley, Tanisha Johnson, Kirsten Johnson, Lameka McCray, Kanisha Johnson, Evette Gipson, and Anisha Johnson; nephews Willie Joe McCray, Jr., Calmease McCray, Keith McCray, Lee Ware, Traquavious Johnson, William Trammell, Kesean Johnson, Christopher Cannon, Damon Johnson, and Kadrius Foster; and a host of great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews..
Debbie's memory will be cherished — as well — by two dear friends, Mary Treadwell and Patricia Sanders, whose unwavering support and kindness meant the world to her.
In honoring her memory, the family invites those who knew and loved Debbie to reflect on the joy she brought into their lives and to continue her legacy of kindness, strength, and love.
"Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure.
She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure."
