Damian Bates, Jr. Obituary

In Loving Memory of Mr. Damian Charles Bates, Jr.

December 23, 1998 – May 12, 2025
"Forever in our hearts"

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Damian Charles Bates, Jr., age 26, of Roanoke, Alabama. Damian transitioned from this life on Monday, May 12, 2025, at his residence on Seymour Drive following a battle with kidney failure.

Born on December 23, 1998, in Jacksonville, Florida, Damian was the beloved son of Ms. Lakeshia Farrow of Roanoke, AL, and the late Mr. Damian Charles Bates, Sr. A bright and curious young man, Damian spent the formative years of his life in Jacksonville, where he graduated from Terry Parker High School. He was a member of the Junior ROTC program, which instilled in him values of discipline, camaraderie, and self-respect — values he carried with him throughout his life.

Damian relocated to Roanoke, Alabama, approximately a year ago, where he sought new beginnings and community. During his time here, he was employed as a security guard with Safe Management, working diligently in the field of public safety. Although his time in Roanoke was brief, his presence was genuine, and he was known to be kind, respectful, and deeply devoted to his family.

He was a member of Bethel #1 Missionary Baptist Church in Opelika, Alabama, and held a quiet but firm faith in God. Damian found joy in the simple things—playing basketball with friends, spending quality time with his nieces, and immersing himself in his favorite music. He was an avid gamer, with a deep love for titles like Call of Duty, GTA, NBA 2K25, Madden 25, and Fortnite. His playlist often included the sounds of Lil Wayne, Migos, NBA YoungBoy, T.I., Rod Wave, and Moe3, all of whom gave voice to the emotions of a young man navigating the joys and struggles of life.

Damian was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Damian Bates, Sr.; his sister, Michelle Candace Woodard; and both grandfathers, Mr. Tyrone Berry. Sr. and Mr. William Lucious Bates, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory:
His loving mother, Ms. Lakeshia Farrow of Roanoke, AL;
One devoted sister, Ms. Zakiya Bates of Roanoke, AL;
Brothers: Michael Woodard, Demetris Woodard, Domonique Bates, Nathan Brown, Izel Brown, and Cenorian White-Young;
His cherished grandmother, Ms. Diane Berry;
A beloved aunt, Ms. Sherri Brown of Roanoke, AL;
Uncles: Mr. Tyrone Berry (Carolyn) and Mr. Terrance Berry (Tamicka);

A host of precious nieces, nephews, and cousins who brought joy to his heart; and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Clark Memorial Funeral Service in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama.
